You are just now figuring this out? Of course that poster wants open borders, no walls. Just come in and do whatever. Just laugh at that poster and move on. Not worth your time.

I'm for a Gang of 8 style plan. Let supply of immigrant meet demand. Those who aren't allowed in have a criminal background. Those who should be deported are those who commit serious crimes or a number of minor crimes that add up. Or those who aren't working. I ask again, if we deport an undocumented immigrant who isn't causing any trouble and working, and his/her job goes unfilled after deportation, who benefits from us spending the money to send this person back to his/her home country?

If we ever have another economic condition where our demand for immigrant labor drops, then we don't allow as many in. And if need be, deport those who aren't working. But last time this happened, around 2010, people chose to return home in much larger numbers than those entering here. It's why in 2008, we had an undocumented population estimated around 11 million, and by 2011, it was closer to 9 million.

You call that open borders. I call it good economics. We all felt the pain of severe labor shortages across the globe when the pandemic caused people not to be able to work, and "widgets" were not produced. We'd experience this same thing if we could magically deport all undocumented immigrants today, because it would impossible to replace their labor. Especially considering our unemployment is under 4%, and we have more job openings than we do unemployed plus homeless combined.

You don't need a PhD in economics to understand what happens when there are massive labor shortages. It's high school level Econ. Don't move the demand curve, but lower the supply curve significantly and what happens to prices? They go up, meaning inflation. Add in the fact it cost thousands of dollars to deport a single immigrant, I ask again, who benefits if we spend billions to deport millions that causes mass inflation do to labor shortages?

That's too funny and true. When it comes to trump, I always compare this place with the 6 degrees of kevin bacon. Honestly, kept waiting for someone to tie the key bridge to trump...'he relaxed the regulations on ships fuel inspections' or something of the sort.
