Well according to this guy, Donovan called him a went off on him. How did Donovan get the number or know who to talk to? And over what time period did he work for Nike? And was Oregon getting a bunch of blue chips at the time? I don't remember them having any great teams, but I don't watch PAC 12 basketball.

Good questions. And Oregon had a few solid teams which is impressive for them because I don't believe they have much history. I think we beat them in a round of the tournament one year.

I guess he's saving the details for his book. Lol. I'm just kind of trying to figure out how much of what he's saying is true. Like did our recruiting fall off when he started working for Nike? He says Nike was focused on steering the best players to Kentucky and Oregon. Kentucky for sure got them, but Oregon? And it's odd that Donovan would have his number if Nike isn't interested in working with him or him working with them. Like I'm sure he didn't call Cal and ask for the number of his bagman. How open was this practice behind the scenes?

And why would Donovan call the bagman and complain instead of taking the info to the NCAA or FBI? This whole thing is confusing. Lol

You mean doing the right thing? This article reads more like Donovan was well aware of what was going on and had the personal phone numbers of the bagman because he had been working with him in the past and was mad that they aren't sending players to him anymore.

I just love Billy's rant...I didn't know he used such salty language haha good for him. What a joke college basketball has become, it's an ever-growing chasm between the haves (that pay) and the have nots (those that don't).

So, do we cut White some slack? It's not just coincidence that we get so many players from the transfer portals....we don't need to pay

It's hilarious to me that you even take this phone call as gospel. So if it's true the most generous thing I can say about Donovan is that he was able to get the information that could have helped clean up college basketball and apparently didn't. Calling up a bagman to whine to him isn't exactly some portrait of courage like people here seem to think it is.

People get the Nike dudes role wrong. He was not a typical bag man - a local dude trying to get paid and or push kids to his alma mater.

he was an employee of Nike, using Nike money to steer kids to Nike schools. Florida was a Nike school. So was UK. However...UK is a major blue blood with a much bigger following. Cal was also a Nike guy pre UK.

Billy was mad that in instances where he is recruiting someone, Nike would sway them to UK with $ to benefit Nike exposure. (More exposure at UK) and due to closer ties to Cal who was fine with it more than Billy was.

I think the last straw for Billy- the one that soured him on the college game - was either Patrick Patterson or Julius Randle. I can’t remember to be honest. I think it was Patterson who was going to come to UF, coaching staff informed, and the. Nike and Cal and lo and behold he goes to UK. Billy was furious since they put in a ton of legitimate work in recruiting him. And this wasn’t the first time that Nike money did this but it was the moment Billy got fed up.

Billy was mad at Nike for Nike steering players to Uk with the excuse it’s a Nike school but UF was also a Nike school so if a player is choosing to come to UF, without paying him, don’t then pay him to go to a different Nike school.

what are you even talking about? I never said his phone call was gospel, you're making up your own argument then arguing with yourself
