The invisible hand tends to correct such things but not always in the way we want. Good points though.

Thanks to DeSantis and Trump we did not, but some states shut down. Schools shut down. Some people stopped going to work. People got furloughed. It happened.

I haven’t had five guys in probably five years or more. Largely because it’s insanely expensive for what you get.

just thought the tweet made the point I was making, that some restaurants are far better deals than others, complaining about the insane price at one doesn’t mean much of anything.

While all burgers aren’t the same most in my area in an average restaurant are over 10 dollars now and have been for awhile.

I remember in the 80’s my grandmother talking about CDs paying 15% or so, she wasn’t happy when it started dropping.

You're all over the place. ‘National shutdown’ was your claim up thread now there was none. Pointless reading your tripe.

Not sure where you live but Florida barely shutdown from Mar to late April in 2020.
While some “non essential” places closed even restaurants were able to stay open for carry out if they wanted.

They aren’t in my area, but if they were I wouldn’t be buying burgers, not that I do very often anyway.
For comparison, I bought 2.5 pounds of N.Y. Strip this weekend (3 steaks) on sale for $25. Had one of the steaks today with some green salad and potato salad. Dang good meal. Probably cost marginally more all in than a McDonald’s “value” meal.

Along that view the increased Gov spending hasn’t helped get the inflation genie back in the bottle.

NY strip on sale are about $13/ lb in the market(just bought some last week).

Chain restraunts like Chilis, Outback, Bahama Breeze they are like 12-13 or more.

The fast food places are less obviously

Agree, but that’s been a 43 year problem now by and large. And this cycle was partially spurred by insane spending from the last 2 presidents. And the last stimulus by Biden and the Dems was overkill even relative to the other spending.
What I have also said from day 1 though, is that this has been as much a supply chain inflationary event as a political one, which is why it’s been so hard to control. You almost have to crush the economy and significantly lower demand and ease the supply chain pressures to really stop it. Though right now it’s not nearly as bad as some seem to make it out to be. 3.4 percent or whatever it is is hardly bad, people are just understandably scarred from the last few years.

Our little local burger joint here has a quarter pounder equivalent burger with cheese for $5.85. And it is worth it, 10 times better than a quarter pounder.

    Agree.

I’d suggest even with the supply chain issues it was made much worse buy the fiscal stimulus over the last 4 years.

Ultra low rates just made it easy for many people to buy it pay later.

Such an odd thing with GDPs cratering due to a global pandemic..

In fairness the Gov had to do something so people wouldn’t starve and loose their homes.

Really? Did a $10 burger price claim cause you to lose it this badly?

It's good thing the OP didn't mention the super market food prices. You would have really lost it.

Here are some comparative prices as of Feb., 2024.

I counted around 7 places where a double quarter pounder with cheese in the U.S.A. that charge more than $10 bucks. Maybe the OP meant a double QP w/cheese?

Even the single QP w/cheese and bacon is more than $10 in some places.

$9.95 here for Angus NY Strip Steak at Harris Teeter (Kroger). There is always a cut for $10. Just rotates around the cut.

So, the OP was true if change the item he was talking about? Your article says the average price is $6.65, and there is only one city in California where it's more than $9...
