How close is Tajikistan to Tijuana ? thank goodness they had a signal and were able to download the CBP app to make their crossing and asylum claim process more hospitable and efficient

8 suspected terrorists with possible ISIS ties arrested in New York, L.A. and Philadelphia, sources say

Eight men from Tajikistan with potential ties to ISIS out of central Asia were arrested over the weekend in New York, Philadelphia and Los Angeles, three people familiar with the matter told NBC News on Tuesday.

All eight men crossed through the southern border into the U.S.

At least two of the men crossed the border in spring 2023, and one of those men used the CBP One app, which the Biden administration created to allow migrants to book appointments to claim asylum, those officials say.

So, the system worked and the FBI alerted ICE, after monitoring these people to see where they would lead authorities, to take them into custody. Sounds about right.

Does AZCatFan still think only 2 terrorists have crossed our borders? o_O
gator_lawyer has already agreed to defend these folks from deportation while they search for friends and family.

A reminder. The next successful terrorist attack committed by people who snuck in through our S border will be the first. And had these men actually attacked anything, it still wouldn't be by people who snuck into the country. These people came in at legal ports of entry and requested asylum.

Also, these people aren't ISIS. They have never been trained by ISIS either. But upon entry, after being alerted by ICE because of their country of origin, the FBI found potential ties to ISIS. Not sure if you can classify these men as terrorists. Potential terrorists? Maybe. But then, who isn't?

Seems odd that federal prosecutors have not charged them with terror related crimes, only immigration violations.

Until the bomb is made and/or deployed there's little we can do.
    That's the terror in terrorism.

That is actually not true. Further, conspiracy to commit terror (or whatever the proper legal language is) is frequently used by federal authorities.

Now, this group may still be charged, or never charged at all for terror activities. However, if they are not charged with anything other than immigration violations, it is difficult to label them terrorists.

However, even if they are charged, I will say this again. The system worked. There are a few advantages to living in a massive police state with no expectation of privacy after all.

Something tells me "ties to ISIS" could mean as little as reposting a meme

The system only worked in this case because authorities were notified AFTER they entered exactly where they came from.
We don't have enough Homeland security people/FBI/CIA personnel to surveil every illegal crawling over our borders.
Nor do we know who and where the thousands upon thousands of 'gottaways' went who possibly wish to do us harm.

This is just baseless fear mongering here lol. You have nothing to back that up. In your bizarro world detaining more people than ever means countless people are actually getting through. No amount of security will dry you wet blanket types.

The Feds can bring charges of conspiring to do a terrorist act and/or aiding and abetting terrorist organizations. The bombs don't need to explode before these charges can be brought before a court. But as of right now, the Feds don't have enough evidence to bring terrorism charges against these 8.

I have no issue with being overly cautious when it comes to immigrants from countries that harbor terrorist organizations. And it looks like the FBI can tie these 8 with ISIS members, and there were talks about bombs. How serious a threat this is? We may never know. But again, this is the system working.

People from Tajikstan, we should have heightened security. Peasants from the N. Triangle seeking to eek out a living? Chances of them knowing anyone from ISIS is small. And chances they would talk to anyone of them about bombing the US? Even smaller.

    Wet blanket types?
Why would these people run from border authorities when they already have an app
provided by our gov't that allows them to lie about their names, background, etc?
They're either criminals, terrorists or have something else to hide from border agents.
