Any "badgering" you perceive was brought about through your ongoing insistence the post was misquoted and the quoter's equally insistent refutation it was not.

When there is stalemate disagreement between posters it's usually better to let it go and not continually respond to the point of escalation. Allow the evidence to speak for itself.

In essence what you're saying is that the risk even if it's relatively small that a child will have access to a loaded weapon is a necessary price to pay for the piece of mind that comes with having access to a loaded weapon in case of a break-in.

 

Not all people have small children in their homes. You do what’s needed for each circumstance to keep every family member safe.

 

I clearly said to expect more stories of children shooting teachers “if schools start arming teachers.” Not including the latter part and simply saying “Hurr durr, children are gonna start shooting teachers?” completely changes the context of my post, which is precisely why that poster chose to not include that part aka not quote me properly.

Just my opinion, but I think "misquote" is not the word orangeblue_coop should have been using. His issue was with the question that 51 asked, not with the accuracy of the quote (which we all agree was identical). Personally, I didn't think there was anything wrong with the question as the "if" was still implied, in my view. Nothing was misrepresented as far as I can tell. If I'm mistaken, I'd love to see a screenshot of what orangeblue_coop sees as it does not match what the rest of us see. Regardless, certainly nothing he should have gotten mad about one way or the other.

Back to the story, is there anything about the parents and/or how this gun was available? Any punishment for the parents in that regard (assuming it was from their home)? Locally, a boy brought a gun to school (more of a showoff fashion rather than any known intent to use). His mom is (was?) a police officer. Go figure.

In fairness, the ones that laugh at this forum would have never made it to the turn. Many of the folks who laugh at this forum are not good at different perspectives (either sharing or receiving, sometimes both). Here is the Virginia laws concerning unsecured firearms around children under 14

§ 18.2-56.2. Allowing access to firearms by children; penalty

 

So after proving recklessness, which is difficult, you can put them in jail for less than a year and/or fine them $2,500.

 

That is the charge class 1 misdemeanor although it doesn't cover if the firearm was used in committing a crime I tried to look that up and couldn't find anything plus you also have the civil side she was trying to take the gun from the kid when he shot her

 

Saw a story on one of the morning news shows and they said the kid intended to shoot the teacher. Not bringing it to show off to other kids.
