    It’s a cultural fear factor. People are safer than ever. The blip in violence is up from historical lows.

    30 years ago 10 year old kids would leave their house at 8am and come back when street lights came on and there was no phone to track them. Now a 10 year old isn’t anywhere his parents doesn’t know. Yet…. kids today are statistically safer so why the angst?

    I have a female friend I’ve known for years. Left NYC for a job in Knoxville. She was so much more frightened of a country hick killing her that a NYC criminal. It was almost comical. Called the police when 3 boys in a truck followed her from a gas station to CVS… was just a coincidence. People have terrible senses for levels of danger.
