You're no doubt correct about some elite recruits being on campus here and there over the decade before Billy arrived, especially D recruits under Muschamp. But if you're suggesting that there was anything like the frequency of that occurring that we're seeing with BN, I respectfully disagree. Now as far as not closing on elite players goes, there are lots of guys who simply prefer other programs, while still others are only in it for the money - duh. But I generally agree with the positive take on the situation expressed in the post you are referring to - and please allow me to remind you that we did land some excellent talent in both of BN's first two classes. FTR, two top 30 recruits in the '24 class isn't exactly chopped liver either.

We’ve always had some talent but we’ve also had some glaring holes, especially on defense. Let’s see how many Grantham guys start next year and the year after.

NIL is taxable income now. There will be a record of the payments from both the companies making the payment as well as the recipient when filing their taxes. These details will eventually leak out.
