These quotes from young and ricks are interesting. More like bama was a business decision and the coaches at UF are good guys….but fell short as a overall package. Wonder what really means…

It really speaks to how far the talent coming out of UF has dropped in recent years. I'm pretty sure post Urban we were #2 in NFL players on rosters and had 46+ players most years.

We've had more players drafted in the last 5 years than Georgia.

If I recall correctly, Galen Hall and Jarvis Williams were the parties in question. And Coach Hall was indeed fired before the end of the '89 season. Williams went on to express his appreciation for Galen's misplaced generosity by saying he didn't give a damn about UF, or the consequences suffered by his former HC or the school. Of course, Steve Spurrier was Hall's successor and would have won the SEC crown in '90 if not for the NCAA sanctions that resulted from that specific violation. After JW dissed the school so rudely after that incident and the resultant fallout, he was pretty much declared persona non-grata and to my knowledge there has never been any reconciliation to this day.

Beyond tired of hearing that "I loved Florida and it's staff" garbage from elite recruits after they sign elsewhere. Everyone loves us, but nobody wants to put a ring on it.

It's been going on for over a decade since Urban left, this shit has gotta change.

    ABSOLUTELY.

another thing, can the follow up question be “well, what DIDN’T Florida do or could have done to win your recruitment?” or something along those lines.

I looked up Jarvis Williams on Wikipedia and found this... sad...

"Jarvis Eric Williams, Sr. was an American college and professional football player who was a defensive back in the National Football League for seven seasons during the 1980s and 1990s.
Williams played college football for the University of Florida, and was recognized as an All-American. Thereafter, he played professionally for the Miami Dolphins and the New York Giants of the NFL.
Williams died unexpectedly at the age of 45."

It’s actually different this year. We haven’t been in the running for elite athletes vs the top teams in years. This is the first time in years and will only get better.

Jarvis denied that Hall ever gave him money to pay child support until his dying day. The assistant coach who Galen gave the envelope to admitted he never looked in it, but just assumed it was cash. Galen is still alive, so maybe one day we will get the story from the horse's mouth. If Jarvis was pissed at UF it was most likely because they fired his coach who was a good guy.

    Wow, amazing stat right here…

“During his UF career, Williams started every game for four straight seasons, recording 239 tackles and 10 interceptions.”

I can't say about Mullen, but almost everyone of our coaches in the past decade have brought top 50 talent to campus for visits. They just can't close them....wonder why that is?

And he blew up Melvin Bratton so bad that Bratton is probably still seeing stars. One of the top 10 bruising tackles in my lifetime at Fl Field.

Tony Mitchell's family came right out and said UF isn't willing to make the types of NIL offers other schools are giving us. Oh, where did they end up?

I don't recall having heard that side of the story before, thanks for filling in some blanks. I had also forgotten that there were allegations that Hall was supplementing assistant coaches out of his own pocket - which was a violation of NCAA rules regarding salary caps for staff at the time. I can't help wondering though how the NCAA got wind of the child support thing if nothing ever happened in the first place, and why UF did and said little or nothing at the time, or in the intervening decades, to more vigorously defend itself against a false allegation. Not saying that the parties lied, but it was and still is a "curious" situation. But Hall was a truly a nice person as you say, and if he got stiffed it really was a shame.

I'm pretty sure that Hall admitted to supplementing some coaches salaries out of his own pocket. I wonder how salary caps for coaches would go over in this era.
