3rd and 15, 3rd and 18, 3rd and 22

I think it is the players we recruit. This has been going on since Charley Strong. It's the Florida curse. If we could cover WR's like a blanket, we wouldn't need to give them cushions. That's why recruiting DB's is always a priority, especially these days. The most dangerous teams throw the ball well. Of course, there are also the myriad of pass interference calls on 3d and 60 over the years as well. I am more confident with 3d and 6 than 3d and 60.

 

we do have talent. But the draft will be interesting. Dexter has underperformed so far this year, what will the scouts see? Does the nfl want cox and his tendency to blow containment and unfortunate misses on the QB? Princely has underwhelmed and isn’t great at containment imo. Miller is old, injury prone and undersized. But I love the guy. If you were a nfl guy, you would spend a draft pick on dean/Torrence? And hill is tough, hasn’t played much despite being in college for 4 years.

 

Our D did play aggressively at times--very effectively--but when the third and longs appeared, we stopped going after Mizzou's QB. A mistake IMO.

 

OK, how about the first nine guys I listed. I say seven or at least eight of them playing the league and drafted. Hard to deny that. 7-9 upper class guys that will be drafted. That’s not enough talent? NFL guys must see something.

 

Nfl guys will see the same thing the recruiting services saw imo. Tons of physical talent but guys who don’t/won’t play within the system or can’t process things fast enough

 

They are not all ready at once, so no, I don't believe we're "talented" right now. We have highly ranked, young players that I really like...but they can't carry a D right now...which means our D is not very good, today.

If a D has one 2nd rounder, a 4th, a 5th, and 5 true freshmen playing (plus many some RS Freshmen).....and a new staff....well, I suspect they'll struggle. Now in a few years, maybe even next, we'll be MUCH better.

Of course UGA last year is an extreme example (just showing for reference), but they had 5 defensive players drafted in the first round. 2 in the 3rd, etc, etc.....And several more going in the 1st this next draft.

Research the preseason All SEC teams...It's Dexter (2nd team), Cox (2nd/3rd team) , Miller (3rd) on most lists....and Marshall on some. That's it. Miller has been on beast mode (love him!), but he's not a NFL star....knowwhatImean?

But again, overall, I agree that we def have a coaching deficiency on D as well.
