I was a bit liquored up but could swear that we gave up 1st downs on all. Is that even possible???!!! I am leaning towards that it was one of those impossible nightmares.
The fear I have is teams will deliberately get themselves into third and greater than 10 situations so they can make a first down.
D Coordinator calling the plays really really struggles sometimes. Can't let that happens. I guess the D Coordinator is growing also but this has to get fixed.
Napier said that the national average is a 21 percent conversion rate on those type plays. Missouri had over a 73 percent completion percentage on pass plays this game.
The three man rush with the dbs off is a bad situation to put the d in. They are having issues. Why not go 4 man with a disguised rusher every once in a while? Play with ears pinned back instead of read and react. We’ve seen this. Not working. What’s the risk? Chunk plays? They’re doing it anyhow. it seems zone is causing busted plays. Go man and play ball. If someone isn’t performing, change them out. Find someone who can. Best way to change people is to change people.
We have had a talent deficiency on the defensive side of the ball since 2017. No more than 3 defensive draft picks per year from 2018-2022.
We were giving up 50 percent of opponent 3rd down conversions going into this game. Sadly it did not improve today. Those 3 really long conversions were bad.
I joked to my buddy during the game, when Mizzu was in 3rd and long, “They have us right where they want us.” Unfortunately I was right.
I’m sorry this talent issue is crazy talk. We have the 3rd or fourth most talent (I think 3rd) according to 247 talent index because we have 8 more 4 and 5 star players than LSU. If we had an experienced DC like Geoff Collins we stop them on all 3 of those long conversions. I love everything about Napier other than his choices for OC (himself) and DC. I believe in Nape he will fix this.
I told my buddy when it was 3rd and 6 we had a better shot of stopping them than those 3rd and forever.
Coaching (not CBN) is def off, in my opinion. But so is the talent....The talent you reference is on paper. Go back and review the top 7 recruits the last 4 years and we've whiffed really bad. Conversely, all of our top 5 2022 recruits are already starting or playing quite a bit. Out of 85 scholly players...We have, what, 3-5 players that might get all-conference recognition? OCyrus might be 1st team All SEC...But no other real candidates for 1st team on the entire team. I happen to think our talent level is sub-par, and this rebuild will take longer that I thought.
