Gonna be difficult to get a QB in to follow Lagway.

Wouldn’t that QB only need to redshirt to be 2 years behind DJ? I don’t see DJ redshirting this year, and this year being more of a leak/tebow kind of year. DJ would be gone after junior year and that QB would be a RS Freshman, correct? Just making sure I’m thinking right on this.

Unfortunately, that could be a real issue. Just ask the Simmons kid who punked out and went to Ole Miss for that very reason. Although to be fair, based on comments from his "camp" at the time, the schedule for '24 apparently played some part in his decision to cut and run.

2026 season Lagway would be a true junior and our 2025 QB would be a RS freshman

Thats why UF needs to elevate it's "Talent Aquisition Business" to a level equal with UGA or Bama.
Places where "5 star" gets you in the door, but you have to "prove it".

if Napier rights the ship and Langway stays as our starter through 25 and 26, whoever comes this year , knows he’s not playing until 27

Anybody who is advising Hill that he needs to start as a true freshman doesn't have Hill's best interests at heart.

Don’t disagree, but Montgomery is getting the attention

Bear in mind Hill wasn't in the picture for a while, Montgomery was the best option. They may still view him that way, not sure.....but Hill is getting plenty of attention now that he is back in the race

True - but they would be guaranteed the #2 spot which means playing time. Also - a truly great player thinks they can beat out anyone. This season Lagway is likely #2 behind Mertz. Meaning, Hill or any true freshman qb will likely only have to compete against Lagway for the #1 spot and not against a returning starter. Door is technically open to anyone to start and not all Highly ranked qbs pan out so there is a chance for anyone to be #1 in 2025, though I hope it is Lagway. (But I think it would be better for him to have to compete with someone other than the transfer from Colorado state as competition makes everyone better).

hill or any freshmen qb could be #2 in 2025 and poor performance or injury away from #1. The depth chart will be wide open in 2025 so maybe not the turn off for a freshman qb with just Lagway in the room

Learning in 25, playing in 26 and starting in 27 and 28 before jumping to the league is a great path for any qb. It's unlikely to hurt his NIL.

It isn’t for any of the teams winning rings.

But the top few quarterbacks want to start in their second year and go pro after their third year. Richardson only got to play one year because of that

You must be new to Gator Football.

We aren't one of those teams, yet.

Texas qb left osu immediately as he knew would sit two years. Not many sit if they are a five star. Manning is sitting but that’s a bit unusual and has been a hot topic.

Manning doesn't agree. Of course, he is getting bigger TX money until he's gone to the pros.
