Indiana plays in the big 10…big difference. Recruiting is still all-important in the SEC, even with the transfer portal. If you want to compete year in and year out, you have to have the core of 4 and 5 stars. 3 stars can develop but the odds are against you.
5* WR Dallas Wilson (Oregon commit) from Tampa Bay tech. There's legit interest here due primarily to : •Proximity to home. He has a large family rooted in the area, and the distance to Oregon is thought to be a factor. • The Lagway effect. Wilson knows would be a day 1 starter at WR, if not, heavily involved at the least as he is probably one the most physically ready WRs in the class standing 6'3 195.
If nothing else, Awesome Recruiting has become interesting again. Portents are positive; momentum is on the upswing; hope springs eternal!
Crazy stat though, look at how many of the last few Heisman and/or national champ QBs were transfers. Seems while HS recruiting is the "Army" and the bulk of the class you have to highlight the team with "Mercenaries" to give you that talent edge. Portal QB'S, WR's RB's and all Defensive positions tend to be a beauty pagent of talent.
I live in GA. We can hire "community coaches" to be on the staff as long as there is someone on the staff that is also a teacher. Community coaches are not teachers. In Roswell, we hired Stephen Ianzito as our Lacrosse community coach. Coach Molly was the teacher/coach and was only there to roam the sidelines. She did not coach but got paid and Stephen ran the team. I'm guessing she made less than $10k per season while he got paid over $40k (as a community Lacrosse coach). We won multiple state championship under coach Zito. Chris Prewitt is our head football coach and is also a PE teacher. The best coaches make over $80k/year in GA now (I think he's under than amount). PLUS, they get paid by the city rec department for coaching clinics, appearances, youth day, etc... these guys make well over $100k (teacher salary, coaches salary, + $$ from the community). However, the youth leagues are a big part in why GA is producing D1 athletes in record numbers. Youth leagues in N. GA are crazy. The coaching is fantastic, the leagues are organized and the players have access to private coaching in every sport. They are churning out studs because these kids are being coached at a high level starting in kindergarten. Two reasons GA football is soaring: 1. Coaches in GA make a lot more money - therefore, attract better coaches 2. The youth football programs are fantastic It's why GA has so many top 250 kids.
And we will get a surprise or 2. This staff has very few misses. Quite a change from the previous guy.
We should be able to pull any WR we want. I mean, who doesn’t want to catch 50 yard tuddies every game?
whats crazy is the staff “misses” from the first two recruiting classes have been pushed out too. McClellan and ETN are the only quality exits from the first two recruiting classes. Maybe Caleb Douglas. Only ones i can see leaving after this season is Kelby Collins, Andy Jean, and Gavin Hill as they’re buried on the depth chart from the 2023 recruiting class
I have been thinking about potential transfers and Kelby Collins and Andy Jean are at the top of my list. But I thought that about them last year too. As much as we rotate on the DL (which I love), I'm surprised Kelby can't carve out a role. We lose Slackman, Dez and Jackson but will add three freshman and a probably 1-2 transfers. I hope he finds a reason to stay but I'm not counting on it. Andy Jean is just a victim of being in a very talented group: Dike, Badger, Wilson, Mizell, Tank and Abrams...and to a lesser extent, Burke and Fraziers. We lose Dike, Badger and Fraziers next year but add Jackson (return from injury) VB3, Montgomery and have a few 5* WR interested. His path to significant PT is not an easy one. I'm hoping Shemar, Sapp, Banks, Slaughter and Barber come back.
I hope Kelby Collins stays and develops into a rampaging monster for the Gator D line. He was a top favorite of mine in his recruiting along with the stud D lineman that signed with Bama (can't think of his name but I think he was from Tampa, if my old memory serves)..... GO GATORS!!!!
Andy Jean was injured so much that set his development back. If Frazier and others don’t transfer, why would Andy Jean? Let the kid develop.
He's a guy I really want to see get healthy. When he got into the few games he played, they tried to get him the ball. Another is Abrams.
I'm moving to Gainesville GA next year and have Coach Niblett on my radar. I want to get involved in their feeder program. I didn't realize he was close to the top of the highest paid coaches list. I know I'm biased but the coaching in the state of GA from K-12 is strong.
Have you seen their stadium? They have played in a bowl for years. Now they have built up their stands to include box seating. They have also included a covered practice field. It’s really impressive for a team that hasn’t won a championship since Deshawn Watson was there. FYI, I’m in Flowery Branch, near the Buford line.
I can see us losing Bordingham. Livingston has been playing better/more lately. We also have 2 TEs redshirting this year so they are going to get playing time. And, if Zip comes back with a medical redshirt, that’s a stacked room. Williams on the O-Line could decide to leave. He’s not gonna get any playing time.
@SuperMOM I’m up in Chestatee a few miles from the Hall County line. Moved here two years ago from Alpharetta. Every couple of weeks we roll into Gainesville for dinner.
15 years ago a good friend of mine was a head coach at a south Florida high school. He got paid around 35k- and had to teach a class and work the weight room. He was offered 90k to take over a program in Georgia. No teaching or weight room required. And thus he relocated.
Yeah there's no question that the Evals from CBN and staff have been pretty damn impressive. George Gumbs Jr. Anybody? Dude is straight jacked and an animal out there. This staff found him at Northern Illinois University. Ja'kobi Jackson ? They found him at Coahoma Commumity college in Mississippi. He's a bonafide stud proving he's a SEC RB. And let me give some love to.the punting, place kicking and even.long snappers. They don't just go get a kicker or snapper they go get the best out there. We currently have committed in the '25 class the #2 long snapper mark mulhern , the #1 5* kicker Evan Noel and 5* combo punter/kicker (rated a 5 * as both punter and kicker) Hayden Craig. Currently playing we got Trey Smack who has grown into the guy, our punter Crawshaw who is among the best in the nation and longsnapper Rocco underwood who is named to the all SEC 1st team.
