Im not sure Kitna is the guy, but I do agree with the OP's assessment of AR. I think he has all the physical tools in spades, but lacks the intangibles and the processing. When has he not taken ANY contact and acted all gingerly afterward? Doesnt seem to have that Alpha dog spirit to me.

My greatest hope, AFTER landing Lagway, is that if AR does bolt for the NFL(50/50 IMO), that someone steps up and plays well enough to fill the gap effectively until DJ takes over. We must show progress across the board next year for a whole host of reasons - not least of which is to prevent a significant fraction of the fanbase from going batshit crazy. Of course, the positive effects on recruiting and program momentum are obvious. A competent QB who can force Lagway to actually win the job, and then hopefully serve as a proven backup for at least one season, would aid tremendously in achieving those objectives.

Max Brown may be the next guy. Looks good to me.

I got bacon'd in the game thread Saturday for saying Nape's offense and AR is a square peg in a round hole. Granted UGA's DL was on his ass fast a lot but as we've seen all season, even when he does have time, he's just either not processing quick enough consistently or he's horribly inaccurate and besides Burrow, who was aided by some great talent around him, i've yet to see a QB at any level go from sub 50% passer to sub 60% passer and become great to elite. That's my worry with if he does return to UF next year....we see more of the same

Not only that. But could you imagine the NIL deals being thrown at a heisman worthy UF qb? I’m talking outside of the collective and local crap. I don’t see how this isn’t talked about more. AR has been wildly inconsistent and is announcing a new NIL partnership every week. Could you imagine someone have a trask type season at uf. Imagine what would be thrown their way

I'm not giving up on AR. Some guys need time. A certain portion of fans think a guy's got it or he doesn't, and are too quick to dismiss.

I do hope he shows improvement this year to build off.

I agree, but the light must come on for AR before the end of fall practice in '23 or, IMHO, it will be time to give someone else a shot. Also, there is the somewhat diminished possibility that he will still project as a late first rounder and decide to move on.

That Travis kid at SWAC has turned into a really good player, and I thought he had no chance to be other than a smallish RB playing QB.

edit: forgot to mention that this gives me hope AR can grow into the player we all hope he can be.

TBH, I don't get this talk about wrong offense for AR. A qb who can't consistently put the ball where he wants to will not fit in any scheme unless we're talking a triple option offense. He struggles with timing, anticipation, and basic throwing fundamentals.

I hope he starts putting it all together. I am skeptical since this is a guy in his third year out of HS now. The game should be slowing down for him, but that's not the way it looks. It feels like he's a perpetual freshman out there.

Driskel eventually got it. Franks didn’t. We all hope he can improve, but at some point have to do what’s best for the team.

Well he could have a great off season and be reported to have full command of the team and the offense and we still wouldn't know until games.

Which is why I hope he turns the corner by the end of this year.

his weaknesses are a reason he’s a square peg in a round hole in this offense. I liken it to Feleipe when he was at UF. His weaknesses made him a bad fit for Dan’s passing offense but when he got to Arkansas in 2020, Baby Briles tailored the O to what Franks did well and he had a great season his final year in college. What AR does great isn’t being schemed into the playcalling imo. He’s not a 3-4 read QB, to me at this stage of his career he’s two reads then take off. He’s not there yet to pick apart a D

Gotta trust Napier with this. Mullen adapted to his QBs, had early success, foundation was shaky and it all collapsed on him after 2.5 years.

Napier is not compromising that foundation.

That being said regardless of who our HC is there are some serious defficiencies in AR’s game. He needs serious QB coaching and teaching before he is able to be an NFL QB. He has enough athleticism to keep himself in college games but that will not translate to NFL success.

AND that another year of the same AR would almost ensure that Billy is going into Season 3 still without an accomplished QB settled into the role to lead the gators to a more successful season.

But the problem playing him as a two read and take off guy is he gets hurt so easily for a running QB.

I totally agree. I just want to see what we actually have in in Brown, Kitna and Miller before we commit to another year with an athletically gifted but habitually under-performing QB. But like you said, his progress during the next 4 or 5 games will have a huge impact on how AR is perceived going into the Spring of '23. There's no two ways about it - we are coming up on time the put up or shut up for AR.
