I didn’t get a chance to really watch any of the Olympics but thankfully Peacock has all the events saved on there so I’ll be binge watching those over the next couple of days. I heard they’re getting pulled soon.
Read something that makes then Chiles situation even dumber…. Gymnasts usually have 4 minutes to submit their inquiries… except the last gymnast, who gets one minute….
US gymnastics say they found additional video that wasn't available to them at the time of the arbitration which shows the US coach asked for an inquiry after 47 seconds, and are appealing the ruling. Its so dumb that medals are being awarded and taken away based on replay of when a coach asked a question to the judges. https://www.cnn.com/2024/08/11/spor...r-exercise-paris-olympics-spt-intl/index.html
Good entrance of Tom Cruise. Seemingly fearless standing on the edge of the stadium. But the MI riffs didn't come thru on electric guitar, his entrance needed the theme music more pronounced.
A really good reflection on this Olympics and how it has the energy and meaning back with a few selective paragraphs. Remember that earlier post about woke Olympics ratings? Did not age well. NBC and the Paris Olympics were a match made in TV heaven - Poynter Also some insight into what's in store for 2028:
Apparently thet denied the US appeal. What I want to know is what happens if Chiles refuses to return the medal? Are there Olympic police coming to her house to repo it from her?
Dionysus and Nicki Fromage (or whoever that lady singer was) kick your door in and take it with force.
There's an easy solution. Biden should have the military invade the IOC headquarters and force them to change their minds.
so the appeal committee sent the notices to the wrong emails and didn't correct it until 24 hours before the hearing, leaving the team insufficient time to find the footage showing that the appeal had been filed in 47 seconds, not the 64 seconds the committee claims, and the committee refuses to review the video because it wasn't submitted in time. oddly enough, the lead member of the committee has worked with the Romanian gubmnt for a decade, same country as the girl that they awarded the bronze too. USOC needs to bitch slap the CAS Jordan Chiles Olympic medal fight turns ugly as USA releases statement (msn.com) The fight for Jordan Chiles to keep her bronze medal took another sensational turn Wednesday night with the USA Olympic Committee (USOPC) accusing the Court of Arbitration of Sport (CAS) of making astonishing errors in its handling of the case. The USOPC said CAS emailed the wrong people at the American organization to update them on the steps being taken against Chiles, leaving them with minimal time to act accordingly before it was ruled that Romania's Ana Barbosu would take the USA gymnast's bronze from the floor final. USOPC said in statement - reported by USA Today - that notices were sent to 'incorrect email addresses' and that it took three days for CAS to make contact with Chris McCleary, its general counsel, after Romania made its appeal over Chiles' score. 'The USOPC strongly contests the CAS decision due to significant procedural errors. From August 6-9, CAS sent crucial communications to erroneous email addresses at USOPC and USAG, an error not corrected until Aug. 9 - three days after filing, two days past the deadline to submit objections and less than 24 hours before the hearing,' the statement said. It adds: 'This deprived us of adequate time to respond meaningfully or gather necessary evidence. We informed CAS of our objections immediately. 'Our objections have since been validated by new evidence indicating administrative errors by FIG (The International Gymnastics Federation) and mishandlings by CAS, which would have been impossible to raise at the time of the rushed hearing. In short, we were denied a meaningful opportunity to be heard. 'Given these circumstances, we are committed to pursuing an appeal to ensure Jordan Chiles receives the recognition she deserves. Our pursuit of truth in this matter remains unwavering.' Earlier on Wednesday, CAS hit back at suggestions there had been a conflict of interest in the panel that ruled Chiles should lose her bronze. Hamid G. Gharavi led the panel that decided Chiles should lose her medal at the expense of Romania's Barbosu but it has since emerged Gharavi has worked with the Romanian government for around 10 years.
