Funny, I read a different article, but it contained the same quotes from X. It wouldn’t be an event without people on X criticizing. I didn’t think they were so bad, except maybe talking too much. They both have programs where the point is for them to talk, so reigning it in might’ve been difficult. It was kind of touching that Clarkson was moved to tears by Céline Dion‘s performance.
Good point. Mike Tirico is experienced enough to know it’s ok to not talk during key moments. Agree. Clarkson also has an amazing voice her so her pov was impactful.
I have to laugh every four years when the Olympics opening ceremonies include some rendition of John Lennon’s Imagine. The song contains multiple elements which contradict the goals of the Olympics. The purpose of the Olympics is to bring people together from different countries, different cultures, different backgrounds, and different religions. The purpose is to honor these different people. Imagine opens with an attack on the beliefs of religious people and continues it in the second verse. The song says imagine no countries, when the whole purpose of the Olympics is to have countries compete against each other. They keep medals score by countries. If they really endorse the message of the song, they should do away with country teams and introduce every athlete individually, having the people merely represent the world. Finally, the song says no possessions. Yet the Olympics awards medals, which will become the possessions of the winners. Now I know I’ll probably get some come on mans for this, but I think the song is inappropriate for the Olympics. Nevertheless, I will still enjoy watching.
well most athletes in the olympics will walk away with no possessions...and some athletes are not competing under a specific countries flag
Clarkson and Manning = DEI hires. I just think NBC sees a lot of it as a non-sporting event. I mean so much of their crew are basically the Today show/morning show people. So to the network i think they view the “ceremonies” like covering the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade or New Years Eve or something. It very much is just bringing in random celebs. They probably aren’t totally wrong as the audience is far from typical sports, but holy shit on the Clarkson and Manning pairing. They are both just so objectively bad at live TV you have to wonder about casting them as the HOSTS for an extended period. Manning can be a funny interview or as a side guest. But if anyone tuned into his NFL show they would know that dude cannot be the personality to fill the dead time on live TV. It’s just awkward. Apparently Kevin Hart and Keenan are doing the highlight show. So two not so funny comedians are doing sports highlights now? Maybe that doesn’t go as badly as Clarkson and Manning… but still… why??? What’s going on there at NBC?
The song also says this: Imagine all the people Livin' life in peace You may say I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us And the world will be as one ^^^ that’s the point of the song.
But the message in the song is you have to get rid of all those things to get to that final point of living in peace.
The Xfinity Olympics DVR section is crap. Tried to record Skateboarding and got rugby, basketball, and water polo.
Why assume they were "mocking" it, and not honoring the great work of art made a guy that spent a lot time in France, and died in France, IIRC.
I liked Kelly Clarkson's commentary. Cannot stand Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie. Their commentary confirmed why I virtually never watch the Today show.
