It's a huge Q at this point. Depending on Micah's rehab, we might need a C, a PG, or a wing. In a perfect world, Micah gets well fast, we get a vet PG (ala Pullin), and a 2-3 year player at the three. If Richard departs, we may need a one-year player at SF.
I used the word "traditional" to distinguish from a combo guard. In other words, if we could figure out a way to clone Zyon Pullin, that would be ideal. Lol. Im just not sure that science has been created just yet or safe enough for humans ay least. Hahaha
IF we can’t find someone who is a good fit at PG, I can see TG going without one & Walter being the primary ball handler. Not ideal by any means, but I hope we don’t reach to fill the spot.
any chance that Kublickas could give us some meaningful minutes at PG this year? He seems like someone poised for a jump too
I think his offseason strength and conditioning will be the key. As a very late arrival to UF last summer, he missed all that and was way behind (see the physical differences in Haugh and Condo between their arrival at UF and the start of the season). He showed good skills in his few appearances and is said to be very good shooter, but he simply wasn't ready for the physicality of high D-1 hoops. Hope we can find him some minutes early and get him into the flow.
If Micah is indeed going to redshirt, I think we need another guy that could provide us with a few mpg at the 4 or 5. Without it, we would be one high ankle sprain away from being very thin up front.
Billy D always said the biggest jump is between freshman and sophomore season. His improvement becomes even more critical if we don't secure an experienced PG transfer. Right now, even if Clayton and Richard return, I don't think the roster overall is any better than last years.
It's too early to know of course, but if Clayton and Richard return, I see this team as comparable to the last. And that's a good thing; we won 24 games and if we hadn't lost Micah, I think we advance in the NCAAT with a legit Sweet 16 squad. I don't see Richard not returning, so the big question is Clayton. He's a difference maker. If we lose him I doubt we're as good as the last team. Close, maybe, but not quite.
