Without knowing their roster situations, it’s not really relevant. We need a dozen or so to hit the portal or declare early just to make room for the hs class. More if you want to bring in transfers.
I hate to see Max Brown transfer. He played much better than I expected. A loss as far as I'm concerned.
This is both needed and expected with having such a young team with so few seniors. Need space to keep upgrading the team.
I would be OK with Brown staying if he quit baseball. He was raw in high school. And being a jack of all trades doesn't speed his development as a qb. Needing to pass in the second half showed how far he has to go yet.
The baseball thing was blown out of proportion, imo. He was football first and participated in all football activities. He was only with the baseball team when football had nothing going on. During spring football practice, he was with the football team. During fall baseball practice, he was with the football team. If the football team was practicing or playing, he was with the football team.
I would want him 24/7. When you want to get ahead, you don't do it by doing less than your competitors. Mertz was the first and last out of the building. That has gotten him where he is.
What makes you think he was doing less than his competitors? If anything, he was doing more with his down time than most.
You seriously don't think Mertz was 24/7 and Max Brown was doing more football while he was with baseball? College ball is filled with expectations throughout the year, not just fall and spring.
There’s a lot of down time. I see nothing wrong with filling that down time with another competitive activity. Baseball was not a priority for him. If football had anything going on, he was with the football team. He really spent very little time with the baseball team. I watch all of our games and go to a lot of our practices. *There is a lull in football activities between the end of football season and the beginning of spring practice. There is another lull after the orange and blue game. During these two lulls is the only time you saw Max with the baseball team.
