[2023] Players Entering The Portal

Let's discuss all Florida players who have entered the portal in this thread. Please remember they were Gators and still could potentially come back so please don't insult any of the young men. Thanks!

 

I assume this means Mertz returns and Lagway is solid. I hope Brown lands a good spot and thrives.

 

I’d be curious to sit in on the meetings with coaches when these things are discussed

 

I was hoping he’d stay either way. Leaves us short on numbers. Definitely understand the decision though. He could play baseball or football at a lot of schools, some schools he could play both.

 

Brown was expected with Mertz and Lagway coming behind him. Now that he has film, played well against FSU, he should get some looks from several group of 5 teams to be their starter. Best of luck to him.

 

I guarantee you that exit interviews for 100+ people is no fun.

Doubt it, but if Mertz comes back and Lagway makes it in the class, his role is pretty clear. I’m sure the kid wants to play, and he’s good enough to play.

 

Doubt anyone encouraged Max to leave. He was well liked in the program. I'm sure they were very upfront with him as to a path of limited opportunities with the program for next year. Guessing they would have been happy to keep him as a #3.

 

They could live stream the meetings. (kidding . . . sort of)

 

Not a fan of losing Max Brown.

Neither Mertz returning nor Lagway making it to campus are set in stone yet. If either of those fails to happen, we're going to be in bad shape for QB depth. After last year's QB debacles I'm not holding my breath until both are confirmed.

 

I agree that it would be nice to keep him, but it would be a bad decision for him. Although there are no certainties about Mertz and Lagway, I think the odds are pretty good both will be here next year. And he would have more information on this than us. Good luck to him.

 

I was impressed with Max Brown in the limited number of snaps he had. In the right hands, he can be a very productive QB.

 

Would be devastating for Mertz to enter the portal and wouldnt make any sense. He is not anyone top 15 NFL QB draft list. Next season is going to be rough and if things work out here or there, he could have a nice season to add to his resume for the draft. NIL deal better get sweetened up for him!

 

Where is Mertz going to go?
He is a late round/Mr irrelevant pick to UDFA right now.

Digging around at least two draft profile sites have him as UDFA.

 

Hope Max goes somewhere that's not on our schedule!

What happened with Will Norman? Supposed to be a stud coming in

 

Has he graduated? Otherwise he would sit a year, no?

 

Max probably looked at the FSU QB and said I could beat him out next year
