We will be fine. Pogue signed FA deal. With Waldrep, Neely, and 4-5 others, we will have a very good weekend rotation. Pogue was Sunday guy at best but more likely a mid week guy. Would have been nice to have him back especially in the regionals and so on to provide some depth but we will be fine
My roster tracker currently has these arms projected. Possible Starters - Brandon Neely, Tyler Nesbitt, Pierce Coppola, Hurston Waldrep, Jake Clemente Relievers - Ryan Slater, Jac Caglianone, Fisher Jameson, Anthony Ursitti, Blake Purnell, Nick Ficarrotta, Carsten Finnvold, Philip Abner, Sam Sloan, Cade Fisher, William Ross, Cullen Hartzog Agree on Neely and Waldrep. Got to hope Coppola's back is fully recovered. Nesbitt might or might not be ready for weekend starting duties but he should get several starts this year. As good as Clemente was this year I have to believe he will also get a few starts or more this year. You have gone thru the list of relievers that could also start but the pecking order of starters normally won't get past 5-6 barring any injuries. I'm sure Ursitti, Nick Fic, and Finnvold will get another look or two in the fall and spring with a few starts in practices so I'll be watching to see any improvement from them.
And word was that Baltimore, who was picking immediately after Boston in the second round last year, was set to select Fabian and meet his demands. Worked out well for the Orioles who got the guy they wanted last year and for a whole lot less money.
I'm not sure exactly what is meant by this other than Jud signed for $350K+ under his slot. However, according to the Orioles MLB page: The Orioles formally inked two of their top picks on Saturday, coming to terms with Beavers (No. 33 overall) and Fabian (No. 67). The signing bonuses came in just under or at slot value for each, according MLB.com's Jim Callis -- $2.2 million for Beavers (just under slot) and $1,026,800 for Fabian (exactly slot). Each now joins the top-rated farm system in baseball, eager to make their own marks.
Wondering where that number came from? From what I have seen he signed at the slot number just over $1.0 million
I hope those numbers are correct as I got the number directly from MLB.com. They have a listing of all the players that have signed; what they signed for and what the slot value was.
From MLB.com draft tracker and so far all the others have been correct: CB-B 67 52 Fabian, Jud Florida (FL) USA OF R/L 4YR JR 6' 1" 195lbs DOB:09/27/00 $647.50k Pick Value: $1.03m
The signing deadline is still August 1st. I don’t know if that is 5PM ET on August 1st or midnight before the calendar turns August 1st or what. Regardless, 6-7 days left. Thompson, Sproat and Isaac remain unsigned per MLB.com. I still wouldn’t bet in favor of any not signing.
I think they are all 3 signing but if there is a glimmer of hope for any of them not signing it is with Sproat. He has the most to gain by coming back.
Probably old news here, but Ben mcDonald gave a quick Fabian/Orioles draft history breakdown Saturday (he & another draftee were at game doing something pregame) Per Ben,, Jud expected/wanted to be drafted by Os last year, I guess hes big fan, (& I thought I was only one in Ocala,,pff) I guess RedSox drafted him w/ no contact, no call, no heads up. So that along w/ lil bro coming to UF, he just gave the Sox a big F U and stayed at U F...
While not a great business idea to say that to a potential employer, I LOVE that story. Even if it isn’t true…
Which part isnt true? I doubt he said anything to Sox in reallity,, just the sentiment I guess. Ben wasnt a fan of the pick btw...lol he knows like me worth the pick where picked but ,, hes not expecting much , hoping to be wrong RedSox did them(Os) a favor IMO last year. If really taking him that high,,thats the part I dont buy.
