What I read some earlier was the RedSox were both aware Jud was asking 3M last time around and they knew that the O’s picked right behind them and the O’s had agreed to the 3M. The RedSox evidently thought they could pressure the signing @ 2M and we all know how that worked out.

Ahh, the business side of our game…..

I wasn’t saying it wasn’t true but just because Ben said so, doesn’t make it true either. Regardless, great story.

I didnt know one way or other either, was just asking/curious..

Probably b/c Ive seen their whole college careers, which probably triples amount of innings the scouts saw them,, but I wasnt overly thrilled w/ the UF or AU picks by Os..lolol

I have heard the same exact story from a player with the exception of that Juds agent contacts every team to tell them his number and the orioles agreed to pay it. The red sox knew his number and drafted him anyway with no intention of paying him.

Pipeline’s Jim Callis writes that the Sox couldn’t give Fabian more than a $2,100,680 bonus without having to surrender a future first-round pick as punishment for exceeding their pool spending by more than five percent. The Red Sox will receive the 41st overall selection in next year’s draft as compensation for not signing Fabian.

guess they figured it was worth a shot and worth the risk either way for them.

Yeah, that is a mouthful. I saw Bo Jackson running them down in CF for AU and he was pretty good. Had a decent arm too.

Think the mets did the same thing with Sproat. Heard there was zero contact between the mets and Brandon before the draft.

Does anyone know if there is active communication efforts between them now to reach an agreement between them?

I am still not getting my hopes up as 99.2% of the top 10 rounds have signed over the last 2 10+ round drafts but if there is any hope, it is that the Mets don’t seem like the sharpest drafting team!!!

I heard they are still negotiating but still a wide gap to close between. Sounds to me it could go either way. Makes me wonder how much does Sproat want to play for the Mets.

The real question to me is—is there any truth to what we read earlier that the Mets actually drafted him with no communication between Sproat and the Mets prior to the draft with regards to the contract process. That’s just a$$backwards…..

Back in 2001 when the Cleveland INDIANS drafted Alan in the first round Alan had told them that he would sign for the right package in his eyes but at the same time he was just as ready to go to college. They had to know he was serious about school, he was looking at a full scholarship under the blending rule having scored a 32 on his ACT test. He told them the number would have to start with a “2”….they thought they could pressure a HS kid and came in at 1.6….the rest is history.

My point is that this is not the first time an organization didn’t do their homework—they (the business of baseball) are used to pressuring both HS and College players and getting what they want. But that’s just me.

I have also heard the no communications before the draft as well so I believe it to be true. That's part of why I posted before the draft about Sproat possibly returning next year. I still think he signs but the gap between both sides has quite a distance to make up in less than a week.

Bo rarely played CF at AU actually.. and not top 5 defensively IMO. Mailon Kent #1 w/ Howell a close second. Anthony Greer, Javon Morand also in running.

I didnt see Kent as much due to no coverage, so I take others word on him for most part.. I certainly recall him just didnt see enough to say "best I saw" Howells reads/routes are best Ive seen at any level.

Bo was just a freak athlete but not a great baseball player honestly.

Javon Moran played CF on the Dixie Boys National Championship Team with Jeff Mathis and Alan back in 1999. If the park held it—he caught it, great player for sure. A lot of fun to watch.

Oh hes(Bo) definetely in all time 9. Id just have in RF..lol

And they have Bellhorn at SS,, I guess due to no other great options,,but mostly a 2b. Casey McElroy at SS would be my pick w/ Bellhorn at 2b.

Honestly Hudson could be part of OF also in the all time 9.. he could hit a little bit..;) but as hes said.. only w/ the aluminum lol
