I’m glad Kentucky settled the matter of whether they were unexpectedly good or we were just that bad … and also the matter of whether they had some kind of superhuman RB who could not be tackled.
Probably beating them 31 years in a row makes the game a kinda highlight for them, and now keeping their winning streak going. I don’t think it’s an excuse or a rationalization to point out they circle the game on the schedule. We just need to match everyone’s intensity and desire every week. If none of that stuff mattered the guy making 7 million wouldn’t have been showing guys film on the history of the UT series. Have you heard Kirbys halftime speech in the Florida game they were winning … 24-0. Sometimes it just means more.
That ship has sailed. Since Stoops arrived, four Florida wins were decided by single digits, and four games were Gator losses. Ask a hundred Kentucky fans who'd they rather beat, and 99 would say "Louisville." 90% would also say "Tennessee." These days, we are no more significant to them than USCe or Miss State. You are what your record says you are. We've been saying "We are everyone's Super Bowl" going back before the Spurrier Era. For some reason, many Gator fans think the Gators are feared, even by teams who have been better than we are. We always like to think so. This is why a go-to rationalization for a loss or close win is the classic "We played our D- game while they were playing their Super Bowl." It gives us something to focus on, i.e., the failures of the head coach, their coordinators, their position coaches, lazy, uncoached players, the corrupt refs who ALWAYS are against the Gators, or God. Since 2010, Florida is a middle-of-the-rank SEC team with a .620 winning percentage. This level of accomplishment used to get a coach fired. We are not feared, but given the right circumstances, we can beat anyone. Of course, when that happens, the great teams have to play their D- game, and when was the last time any fan said their losing opponent had a horrible game? That would imply that if they only played their normal game, we would have lost.
As I said last week after our loss to UK, Stoops didn’t elevate UK to the top of the conference. Best they can do is hang around 4-8 in the conference, most likely around 5-7. UF was just mismanaged badly by multiple consecutive failed hires and allowed to plummet to the bottom of the conference in talent, culture, and system continuity. Always had athletes at the skill positions, completely neglected the trenches. UF can rise again to the top of the conference with the right coach. Kentucky is at their ceiling.
Stoops elevated us plenty. As long as he is there we have a fighting chance against anyone and that is all I ask. Last night was an ass kicking. We can’t let one loss turn into two by feeling sorry for ourselves.
This score should have been a surprise to no one. At least for now it means we likely don’t have to deal with more posts about how “iF wE’rE pATiEnt wE cAn bE lIKe kENtuCkY”.
We are their Super Bowl… Oh it was too early and we weren’t pumped… Oh it was a night game and they had too much time to get pumped…
Against UGA, Day decided to stand pat at the 32 yard line and attempt a long FG. That's why SOS hates kickers. As for Stoops, he gets his players up for UF and no one else. After beating us last year, UK finished 7-5 and were shutout by Iowa. All that team and fanbase care about is beating the Gators.
Pat McAfee: I think Georgia wins by less than 14. I think Carson Beck plays well but Kentucky is able to keep it close with Ray Davis. DFFA - yes, 38 < 14. And Davis’ 15 carries for 59 yards was huge. Nice call Pat! Kirk Herbstreit: I don't know yet how good Georgia is yet on defense. I think they will be tested, I think Kentucky keeps it close, but I got Georgia. DFFA - close as in losing by 38. This, plus McAfee’s buffoonery and obnoxiousness ruined College Game Day for me. “Experts.”
Kentucky's Mark Stoops takes aim at Georgia's NIL use in wake of loss: 'They bought some pretty good players'
