I was going to put this in the DeSantistan thread, but it is locked.

2 groups cancel Orlando conventions as worries over political climate grow – Orlando Sentinel

AnitaB.org, an organization of female and nonbinary tech workers, is moving its annual convention out of Orlando and taking its business elsewhere, citing Florida’s political climate and actions taken by Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Legislature.

And another group of nurses is canceling a 2027 event because of similar concerns, according to the Orange County Convention Center.

The cancellations are the latest economic blow to the region, coming in the wake of Walt Disney Co.’s decision to drop plans for a nearly $1 billion corporate campus in Orlando with 2,000 high-paying jobs.

But, that's pretty much mission accomplished, right? These are the types the DeSantis crowd wants to never enter their lines of sight.

They can always do Vegas. That place is pretty non-binary.

Ha, yeah. I mean if Vegas was already an option this wouldn't be a story.

Perhaps the people that depend on the income from these types of events are concerned about their income. Do they matter to you?

There are always winners and losers.
I can’t help every single person.

Gonna suck for them when they find out that 2027 is the 3rd year of RD's White House residency.;)

    Where they gonna go then?

Guess we can't have nice things. Too bad. That thread was useful.

Good post. These are small conventions comparatively but can really impact the ability of bookers to keep different size spaces booked for as many weeks/weekends as possible . Tampa’s Convention Center knows it cannot compete with Orlando in size and the Mouse, but specializes in smaller conventions. They just completed a substantial renovation.

If I’m reading correctly, these were primarily just women’s groups. Women computer programmers and nurses. They don’t exactly sound like LGBTQ focused groups under direct assault, although one of them mentions “non-binary” as being welcomed as part of their organization.

I guess incel males would feel threatened by the sight of educated high income females, so your point may still hold.

I have a friend in Orlando who caters these conventions, this will hit her if it becomes more prevalent.

I’m not losing sleep over people who think irrationally. No one hates LGBTQIA’s in Florida. We don’t want our educators encouraging alternative lifestyles and talking about sex in elementary schools.

Lol, Desantis has next to no chance at winning the presidency. The majority outside of Florida know he’s a socially awkward joke, and it will be more evident once the debates start and he gets obliterated by Trump and Christie. When your campaign starts off as nothing but “woke this and woke that” you know you have no platform worth a shit. His approval rating continues to tank every day, too.

Ron DeSantis' approval rating has collapsed

*yawns* the so-called Bathroom Bill in NC was supposed to have led to a mass exodus of business from the state. Verdict: NC continues to grow hammer and tongs and most of the virtue signaling corporations that threatened to pull out came slinking back.

    Hate Crimes | Equality Florida
According to the Florida Attorney General, hate crimes based on sexual orientation currently account for 22 percent of all hate crimes, surpassing religion as the second highest category. Race is still the most common motivation. When taking into account the size of the targeted communities, LGBT Floridians are at the highest risk of being targeted with a hate crime.
Ron DeSantis attacks LGBTQ+ community with "slate of hate" laws

    What a weird source. Axios.
I know you can’t throw a stone 10 feet without striking a libbie writer willing to trash Ron D.
Not buying it. Hate crimes are reality for a small part of ignorant Floridians.
Same for every state. There are many LGBTQIA’s who reside in Florida and love it despite the exaggerations from your hateful side.
