I don't think playing zone was a mistake. I believe CBN had a plan, and they had a lot of left over issues from the Mullen / Grantham abortion to deal with. The D was going to get better in time, I knew that. The coaches had to get other issues straightened out first. The bye week, the player who was released, the player's only meeting came at the perfect time. Patience is a virtue.

It wasn't working like the coaches thought it would, just look at the results in how our defense looks now that we've been increasing our man/press defense on the back end of our defense.. That with the new and improved pass rush up front is what has made the Gators one of the best defenses since the 1980's...

And that all changes in two years when Grantham started changing our defensive scheme to a passive "bend-but-don't break" 3 man front. That playing zone defense 'properly' is very complicated.

i don't know why some posters cannot comprehend your first paragraph? This isnt rocket science. CBN is in it for the long game, and he won't sacrifice his plan for short term gains.

Obviously our coaches believed this was the best way forward. There is a lot more involved than change of scheme to look at the difference from day 1 to now. its pretty simplistic ti think that any scheme would have worked day 1 with the D being so bad last year and losing most of our LB core. i dont think your analysis is correct and i also think that most posters here should have realuzed that Toney wasnt married to a scheme, the D would get better later in the year, and CBN had a plan that would take time. Timing is everything and apparently CBN has made a great move at the correct time

That loss to UK is looking worse and worse.
They just got beat by Vandy.
Stoops is good coaching up against UF as of late but his record against others is pretty sub par.

Curious and I don’t know how many of those high star guys from those classes were still there when Kelly took over?

They had 39 scholarship players when he took over. But those 39 were probably pretty talented and he added some talent through the portal and in the recruiting class that included 4 true freshman starters that are making a difference.

Stoops is widely admired. But his flaws are widely known now and he may have missed a window to get a top tier job. Then again he may be happy where he's at.

He sure is lucky to catch us limping a couple of times. Especially this year even without Rodriguez, we were dazed and confused. Gave them a gift.
