What’s so wierd about this …. the people who think it’s okay for a man to participate in women’s sports (especially boxing and wrestling) potentially exposing the women to serious injury …. are the same people who are triggered by the label on a plastic bottle of syrup.

The part I'm trying to figure out is why people think this woman is a man.

 

We know Angela Carini thinks she's a man. The handshake snub, which is very rare to see in the Olympics, after only 46 seconds of fighting tells you all you need to know about what she thinks. She knows.

 

Angela Carini refers to Khelif as a woman ("All this controversy certainly made me sad, and I also felt sorry for my opponent, she had nothing to do with it and like me was only here to fight"). Do you have any quotes from Carini saying that Khelif is a man?

This is the most interesting part of this whole ordeal. I am usually able to divine some sort of reason for almost any minority viewpoint, but this one is elusive. The best I can see is this reasoning: she punched harder than most women; men punch harder than most women; therefore she is a man. Of course, this is a well know logical fallacy called affirming the consequent. Eg it also works in this case: my cat has four legs; dogs have four legs; therefore my cat is a dog.

I can still see goodwill in the right wing viewpoint (my streak there remains in tact!), as the desire to protect women from physical harm is a laudable goal. There just appears to have been an unfortunate misfire in the pursuit of this noble aim.

Actions speak louder than words. She's probably under strict orders to say the politically correct things. There is a lot of bullying and pressure to play that game. But Carini's actions show she thought the whole situation was dirty. A fighter quits after 46 seconds in the Olympics, they shake the hand of the better opponent 100% of the time. It's like a tradition in the Olympics. It was enough for some people to speculate Carini's actions after the fight were pre-planned.
