Canadian Boomers’ top issue was Trump, bottom issue was making Canada a better place to live. Question: if the US decided the Canada election, doesn’t that sort of indicate it’s already a state ?
Trump did it. Thanks to his [ridiculous] proposal to make Canada the 51st state and his proposed tariffs on Canadian products which by the way were a repudiation of the USMCA which he negotiated during his first term and proclaimed as a great deal he managed to resurrect the Canadian Liberal Party which was down over 20 percent in the polls and headed for a massive defeat only three months ago.
Speaking as someone who would rather see a moderate republican or democrat win the next election for the U.S rather than what we have had....these dumb dumbs don't realize that all this spiking the football and crashing the economy is just going to push the next elections back to the dems who will likely strike back with the same fervor. Checkers not chess!
There is conjecture that Trump got exactly the result that he wanted. Speculations that he believed the libs will be easier to deal with than the cons.
The Conservative candidate didn't even win his own seat. From presumed PM to not even MP. Canada’s conservative leader Pierre Poilievre loses his own seat in election collapse – POLITICO
Yes, I am sure that he wants to primarily deal with the people who won because they will spite him rather than the guy who tried to copy him and would just have loved to have his biggest political liability go away.
Or an enemy. A hunted animal, so to speak. I wonder why Canada would feel that way? Maybe Trump is not quite the diplomat he thinks he is.
You might want to get that beverage back. Neither side was unhappy with that comparison...until it became an issue in Canada...and now, that he has lost, associates Trump's brand with a loser. Pierre Poilievre, Canada's Trump-inspired conservative leader
Because he wanted to lower taxes and is quick with a quip he’s another Trump. You’re not going to let me finish my drink, are you ?
The USMCA is up for review now. It's a trilateral agreement, which includes Mexico. Trump wants bilateral agreements with Mexico and Canada. Politico shared a Trump quote, “I don’t care,” he said. “I think it’s easier to deal, actually, with a liberal and maybe they’re going to win, but I don’t really care.” Canada will be forced to renegotiate and they are in no position to negotiate with a country the size of the USA. Trump will get everything he wants in these negotiations. He never wanted Canada as a 51st state. Would be like adding a 2nd California. That would be terrible for our elections.
Carney‘s mandate - resist our authoritarian leader. “Our old relationship with the United States, a relationship based on steadily increasing integration, is over," Carney said in a victory speech in Ottawa. "The system of open global trade anchored by the United States, a system that Canada has relied on since the Second World War, a system that, while not perfect, has helped deliver prosperity for our country for decades, is over."
Thats like the 40 year old that lives in his parents basement telling his parents their relationship is over.
I'm looking forward to the "Well, actually..." posts when Republicans lose the house in the mid terms. The conservative candidate was leading. Trump wanted the conservative candidate to win. He lost, seemingly because he was seen as the more Trump aligned candidate. Theres no 4-dimensional chess here. Trump is extremely unpopular in Canada just like he's becoming more unpopular in the US. I had a very difficult time believing Trump was still popular enough to win the presidency and now Trump supporters are going to have to come to terms that he really isn't that popular anymore.
You probably could if you took some time to actually read the article rather than posting through it. Good luck.
Uh huh. Now, let's apply a modicum of critical thought to this. Let's start with this basic question: what is it that he wants, specifically, above the agreement that he signed (which was basically a copy of NAFTA with some minor labor regulations added)?
Who's crashing our economy? Am I missing something? What part of the country is crashing? Please tell us you remember what we just went through with Biden.
