Actually, he did try to repair damage and stop pedo priests. BRUSSELS — Pope Francis said Sunday that bishops who have abused children need to be brought to justice and not protected by church authorities, following several days of public outrage in Belgium over the Catholic Church’s dark record of obfuscation of pedophilia in its ranks. “Evil must not be hidden. Evil must be brought out into the open,” Francis said in unscripted remarks to thousands of people gathered for a mass at King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels to conclude his visit to the country. “Evil must not be hidden. Not really. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/apr/22/tragedy-child-sexual-abuse-scandal-cast-long-shadow-over-pope-franciss-papacy “Words without action ring hollow. Under [Francis’s] leadership, the church failed to hold bishops accountable for their roles in enabling, concealing, and perpetuating abuse. Systemic change remained elusive. “The resignation of a few prelates behind closed doors is no substitute for public accountability. His refusal to remove or discipline those complicit in cover-ups betrayed the church’s moral obligation to protect the vulnerable.”
My feelings on religion and faith are well known and have gotten me short vacations from the sight for breaking no rules. He is the best leader of the Catholic Church in my lifetime. I said this earlier maybe on another sight that calling Francis the best pope may be damning him with faint praise.
Although I’m sure he many positive attributes, he lacked the moral courage to protect the innocent and punish the guilty. Let’s not whitewash his legacy.
