Agreed. Here's a guy with limited PT but probably significant capabilities hoping a school with more money and NEED will pay up. I cannot say I blame him. Given our need, if he doesn't land a better deal could probably stay. I hope he does.

Short sighted? Maybe. This NIL thing is a mess.

First, I think you'd be hard-pressed to find me saying anything about this situation, in this thread or in any other.

Second, I'm a public servant in Boulder, Colorado. The idea that it's my responsibility to assemble a championship-caliber football team is absurd. My priority is making rent next month. I put that burden on the people making millions of dollars for jobs where that is their explicit task.

Third, however much folks might deny it, this conversation is all about sneering at people who can't afford to donate money to UF's NIL arrangement. It's establishing tiers of fandom where the opinions of richer fans are more respectable and the opinions of the lower classes can be dismissed with "And how much money are you donating?"

Fourth, I want to watch a good, competitive Florida football program. I don't think that makes me irrational, I don't think that makes me a looney tune, I don't think that makes me ungrateful. In fact, while I'm weird in a lot of ways (I liked the last season of Game of Thrones), I think that makes me pretty normal. And more importantly, I think I'm holding the program to the expectations the program itself has articulated.

Fifth, and to engage with the substance of the situation, it sucks and is harmful to lose a talented young player at a position of need. It's not a catastrophic loss, but it makes life marginally harder than it would have been.

Now, I follow the NFL closely, so I'm used to teams losing good players because of a salary cap. Teams always have to negotiate some kind of money limit, whether it's a salary cap or a cash budget. You can't give everyone everything they want. It's Napier's job to navigate that. Not giving Robinson what he wants might very well be the right decision (or at least the only viable decision), so I'm not going to raise the bloody flag over it.

Have to ask, is a 3 star portal guy really a replacement for a program experienced big four star Florida DT?

I wasn’t singling you out, just responding to your post where you implied opposing views are not allowed. They’re allowed, they’re just not above being criticized themselves.

I don’t think you’re taking into account who is funding this stuff. Nobody is saying you have to fund it yourself, but criticizing those who are is bullshit. This isn’t being funded by those making millions for doing so, it’s largely being funded by guys like Condron and Hathcock, who aren’t ever getting any of their NIL donations back. If you’re going to criticize their efforts, I think it’s fair for your efforts to be criticized as well.

I don’t see that at all. I ask that question all the time and I don’t donate to NIL. I think it’s asinine. This stuff is entertainment for me. Tickets, gear, concessions, that falls under my entertainment budget. Filling up college athlete’s bank accounts falls well outside of my entertainment budget. I don’t think it’s fair to criticize those who are dumping millions into it though and will continue to call out the folks who do. If I’m not willing to help secure a single player, where do I get off criticizing the guys who are almost single handedly keeping our entire athletic dept afloat?

We all want the Gator’s football team to succeed. I want them to succeed in all sports, not just football, but I don’t feel success an entitlement. I like it much better when they win, but they’re still my team when they lose. Trying to micro manage and criticize every perceived failure isn’t helping the team succeed. Nothing I do is really going to make much of a difference, so why dwell on every negative I can find? I try to find the positive where available, and simply accept my role as a fan. I’m here to root them on, not kick them when they’re down or point out every perceived fault I can find.

It’s part of the game now and it happens to every team. Dwelling on the individual losses is unlikely to bring you joy. Move on and celebrate the next one we land instead of mourning every one we lose.

I don’t really follow the NFL. We don’t have a cap here though. Anyone is welcome to step up at any time and help UF land the highest paid roster in the country. If you’re unwilling or unable to contribute and help make that happen, don’t criticize the folks who are contributing and helping us land the players we do get.

That’s my opinions. You don’t have to agree and you’re allowed to post your criticisms, critiques, and complaints, but you’re not above reproach. If you’re going to be critical of my team, I’m probably going to be critical of you.

Never know until he hits the UF practice field or has PT. Anything else is pure speculation.

I didn’t say that you did, I just said not to. It is something that is being tossed around in the midst of the conversation you joined.

Can’t ask those questions unless you donate 500k to retain Robinson apparently.

My point was only that we can get DTs, but can they replace Robinson? It will be what it will be.

Absolutely reasonable stance, and one probably shared by the majority. Nothing wrong with taking that position.
But then you can't turn around and whine when a backup leaves because of exorbitant financial demands. I'm sure you wouldn't, but some can't seem to grasp the hypocrisy

No one is sneering at anyone who doesn't donate.....period.
But to call others cheap because a backup player wasn't paid is beyond the pale....period. That deserves more than sneering

You can’t possibly be that dense. You have NO clue what goes on behind the curtain. @apkgator and a few others have tried to explain how this works. It’s a delicate balance with funding up and down the roster. And to say other big time programs wouldn’t lose a player like this is complete bullshit. They LOSE THEM ALL THE TIME. Pay attention and absorb information.

Maybe he will increase his value the way the Imaleava QB did and decides to return?
