But I completely agree with him on the corporatization of healthcare. I would like to see Doctors making the lion's share of the money - and having more control over their patient's care - not hacks like Rick Scott.
What in the world are you talking about. I have never pushed anything close to the lie you just told…
I have a pretty good memory, but its not perfect. But what else could you mean by bringing power back to the patient and doctor and bypassing/cutting off the insurance companies for doctors visits? That means you pay the doctor directly, which in theory means the doctor can negotiate whatever payment form he/she wants to accept, including chickens and bitcoin.
Btw, I just got back from an appt with my female urologist. Whilst staring at my junk she said, that is good sized. BAM! she was not referring to my penis & I’ll need surgery ☹️
Yes, we do have a huge middleman that largely doesn't fulfill its selling point of being able to negotiate lower costs with providers. The market incentivizes collusion so they work together to overcharge each other and pass the costs to you. The theory behind single payor is that the government in theory doesn't want to make money, and being the only game in town has leverage over providers to lower costs. This is why doctors and insurance companies dont want single payor, they want people to pay as much as possible because that's how they make more money.
Paying the doctor directly has nothing to do with your made up barter BS. I have never pushed anything close to a barter system.
So the doctor, unrestrained from corporate insurance companies, can by law only accept US dollars as payment in your scenario? If not I think that is 'pretty close' to a barter system.
Again, don't really have a problem with the Doctors making money. It's the Rick Scotts making money that I have a problem with. I also suspect this is the crux of the cost issue, not doctors making too much.
I have no clue what you have made up in your head. I have pushed for a long time to have HSAs/catastrophic insurance/if you want to pay for it Cadillac insurance/a safety net for chronic illnesses and those who can’t help themselves. Requiring insurance companies to cover things that are not insurance just makes them more money. As they have to turn a profit and will make money on each procedure covered.
How do you figure our health system is "socialist?" The system seems as capitalist as capitalism gets?
Medicare and Medicaid are socialist. Question: Is there an area here in the United States in which we have not been as aggressive as we should in promoting property rights and free markets? Milton Friedman: Yes, in the field of medical care. We have a socialist-communist system of distributing medical care. Instead of letting people hire their own physicians and pay them, no one pays his or her own medical bills. Instead, there’s a third party payment system. It is a communist system and it has a communist result. This website has some good info on US healthcare. The writer was a Milton Friedman disciple. It is as fascist as fascist gets. And much closer to socialist that capitalistic. Big Provider/Big Pharma/Big Insurance control Big Government. It really started with Medicare. And has grown to the monster it is today.
