Guys, I'm a Gator from another country. My English isn't great. There's a lot of emotions in this forum right now about Aberdeen. Some blame the NIL and portal rule. Some blame the player being greedy. Some think Lee is the reason. My humble opinion is the portal and NIL is not the issue. Our natty relies on the portal. We don't have a huge NIL comparing to other teams. But our coach still find the best fits to his system. I think the rule is the rule. We can still win with this rule. Player has the right to choose money over loyalty. I accept that, I don't blame DA for doing this. He told coach Golden what he want money wise and role wise. Coach turned it down. So he chose the other road to prove a point. I think he has some chips on his shoulder. It's Coach Golden's decision to pay and recruit Lee and decline Aberdeen's request. I think it's a basketball decision. I trust his evaluation because he's a great great coach. I'll also support Lee and the Gators for the repeat next season. Go Gators
Welcome to the party. Nice to see a new face. Your English appears to be as sound as many folks who post here. But if you plan on staying on the basketball forum for a while, you either need to stock up on patience pills or learn the proper dance routine: It can get you a bit dizzy, but you learn to handle it. And it is kind of fun. You know, like how much fun it is when you put hot sauce in your mouth and you have open sores in it...
I'm past the Aberdeen story. I won't let it sour the experience we just had, in which he played a big role.
Your English may not be perfect but you’re far better at typing than I am ! AD left.. oh well. Move on and move up!
I'm excited for the next year's roster. Lee, Brown, Urban, Transfer A (hopefully coward or a great 3d), Freshmen, Haugh, Micah, Cheyenlu and hopefully Condon. We may need another transfer big in case some front court player is injured.
Great title for this thread..in Golden I trust. I was looking forward to seeing him in a bigger role next year but in Golden we trust.
Well, I guess loyalty is earned. It's works both ways. It's a cut-throat business regardless, not chuch league or middle school.
Aberdeen and Coach Golden disagree on his role and value. I trust Coach Golden's assessment. He can use the money for player he thinks are better fit for his vision of the team.
Now the NCAA BB is more like NBA but every player is a free agent every year, It's a change that I don't prefer. But it's the reality. Coaches are also GMs. For guys like Haugh who are financially ok, He might give the school he loves a discount. But you still need to pay him market value. For other player you have to compete money wise for the service.
If I am not mistaken, Reggie White (I believe he was an ordained minister) waited until God told him which team to go to when he became an unrestricted free agent. And then the cloudy skies opened up, there was the sound of angels singing and then a booming voice came out from the middle of a ray of light, saying "I want you to go to Green Bay and make me proud." And the rest they say is history. And it didn't hurt that Green Bay gave him a contract offer that was WAY above everyone else. I guess God works in mysterious ways. He uses quality people in places that also pays the largest monies. Halleluiah!!!
If the quote is accurate(I question everything these days) then it reads like a dad who is jilted over negotiations. If Aberdeen was a proposed starter next year how does that fit in with a coach that doesn't believe in him? I always leave room for explanations like maybe Aberdeen isn't expected to start even if unlikely because at the end of the day we don't really know what goes on behind closed doors but on the surface this looks like another case of a meddling parent shopping their kid around.
It's about the Benjamins for everyone, not just the kids. I just recently took a position with the potential for 2-3 times what I was making. Not a wise choice as all I thought about was the money. I hated it and after a few weeks I went back to the position I had. Much happier. I hope it works out for Denzel better than my choice did for me.
I sincerely hope the staff (and Condo) are all over Ben Henshall. He would be a huge addition especially given Aberdeen's departure. Our odds of repeating would increase substantially with the Aussies both on board IMO
