How many times have you driven coast to coast?

You can’t track hours/idle for main battery warranty purposes. EVs use the 12v (or in Tesla’s case 48v) system to power accessories. It tops up from the main battery when needed and gets charged while the main battery gets charged but it’s not a representation of car usage.

And why should drive train or bumper to bumper warranty warranties erode for sitting in the car with it “on”? Did the suspension take wear? The motors?

If a manufacturer wanted to have separate warranties for the main battery based on recharge cycles (really should track DC fast charging which is more harmful vs ac charging) and everything else based on miles they could do that. Or total energy delivered. However, they would need to tell consumers ahead of time so they could plan for it.

I mean my comments were in reference to separate warranties but I realize I didn't specify that. Somewhat obvious but yes, I should have said as much. I might have assumed batteries and drive Train/motor would automatically been considered separate issues for reasons you stated.

Then maybe base the warranty and things on hours of battery usage and not miles. Or a combo of both.

Just did a 33 mile round trip so 66 miles estimated by the nav system. 48 miles was interstate and rest was city driving. Odometer showed 67 miles traveled. I will do more checks

Interesting enough it ended up $10 despite drop in sales and a big drop in net income.

The post election pop was well over blown as it was with many stocks.

Their sales were down 20%, market must have expected worse….

They also announced cheaper models coming and expect to sell 1000 robots, or something like that.

Trading customers down is typically a last ditch effort of a company out of ideas. Usually.

I’d worry less about current stock price and more about future. They have no customers. Big problem.

If they had committed to it 5 years ago, they might have a real business hitting lower-end markets. But the Chinese beat them to the punch. They will now dominate the volume markets. Tesla's sales are now heavily dependent on import controls to keep out competitors from China. The bang for the buck of a Chinese EV at this point is so far beyond Tesla that they can't even see them.

If Tesla really wanted the car market, they could have come up with a lower end brand and focused on low cost engineering. But it was around this time that Elon decided that the only thing he cared about was attention and low cost engineering is not attention grabbing, generally. It is a slow, labor-intensive slog.

So now we have a company who makes expensive toys and more expensive toys but selling itself on how everybody on earth will need their very expensive toys that intentionally alienates a big chunk of their customers. It has a big component of its value that is the world's largest meme stock.

In China the bottom end BYD is $8000 US…. Would be funny if the next president lifted the EV tariffs. Protecting the richest man in the world from competition, so the rest of us can pay more, seems silly.

Tesla Drivers Claim Their Odometers Show Inaccurate Mileage - Business Insider

Some more detail, including more people coming forwards with examples that compare their GPS readings to odometer readings...

Looks like lots of people have kept the receipts, including screen shots and GPS app data that shows wild discrepancies. One lady says Tesla appears to have backed off from trying to collect $5000 in lease fee over charges when she showed them she kept her own records.

Interestingly, one guy says his problem was fixed by a software update after he complained about it... that seems problematic for Tesla, as if they knew how to manipulate the odometers.
