I had no idea he was 34th in salary--and his bonuses aren't good, either. He legit beat 5 coaches in the tournament alone who are paid more than him. Add Gates, Oats, and Barnes in the SEC tournament. You need to boost the assistant salary pool, too, so not sure you make him top-5, but you should probably aim for what a comparable guy like Oats is getting (around 5 per).
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida Gators men’s basketball head coach Todd Golden on Saturday announced that he and the school are close to putting pen to paper on a new deal to keep him in Gainesville for a while. “I feel like we're very close to putting something together that will keep the Goldens in Gainesville for quite a while,” he said after his program was celebrated during the halftime of the football team’s spring game. “I think in the next week or two, we'll get to the finish line on that.” Todd Golden, UF 'Close' to Long-Term Deal
Wait. I thought it was me changing the channel in games where it looked like all hope was lost that saved the season? No?
The only other coach in the SEC with a natty is Calipari. Golden just beat Bruce Pearl - 4th highest paid coach Rick Barnes - 5th highest Dan Hurley - 7th highest Kelvin Sampson - 9th highest Nate Oates - 10 highest Winning a natty puts Golden in rarified air. The only guy on that list that won one is Dan Hurley. I'd say UF should at least pay him in the range of Bruce Pearl who is the second highest paid coach in the SEC - Calipari is highest paid in SEC and he is the second highest paid coach overall. I don't know what the argument would be against paying Golden more than every other coach in SEC except Pearl and Calipari.
I hope by “long-term” deal they mean “lifetime” Golden couldn’t have waited for or crreated a better time to negotiate
So is this deal done yet or what? Bring the pitchforks back out for Stricklin! We put them away too soon!
