Top of the 9th New Earl (really?) is #17 Sr RHP Sullivan (1.50, 0-0, 12.0 IP) Heyman grounds out to short
So, the Gators take the series but come home with a bad taste in their mouth. Maybe that's a good thing.
Arky is going to be mad too after losing two series in a row. We better be ready for a fight. Go Gators!
He needs to clean house … tired of young excuse pitchers Not sure if any of these guys (pitchers) have developed into what was anticipated when signed !! Wondering if the 2 older assistant coaches were better at recognizing talent… ?
We are playing an SEC team. If you aren't ready for a fight you don't have any idea about SEC baseball.
Meatloaf said, "Two out of Three Ain't Bad", but a sweep would have been sweet. The question is, Where can we find 6 conference wins against Arkansas, South Carolina, Texas & Alabama? We barely got in last year with a 13-17 conference record. But we were terrible in midweek games and were barely above .500 overall. This year, midweek has been good and RPI, per Warren Nolan's charts after today's game is #24, SOS #6. If we can go 6-6 over our last 12, I think we get in. Just can't get swept and maybe will need to sweep either South Carolina or Alabama.
We're in the bottom tier of SEC (along with Miss. St) for a reason that should be obvious to all astute baseball eyes. We can hit average pitching- as we saw- but our pitchers are average as well. We have 3 maybe 4 guys who are SEC calibre on the mound. Not sure if it can be fixed before we play top teams.
Wetzel was a great talent evaluator for sure. I think he needs to find a stronger pitching coach frankly which would allow him more time to focus on bringing in more talent.
Is it poor evaluation of talent or lack of development but the pitching woes are an annual issue. If somehow Sully can fix that maybe just maybe he would have more than one national championship. Instead, it's control issues, walks, hit batters, or batting practice. Just somehow never gets fixed.
We are also missing our Sat started and key lefty reliever. However, you are right in the sense that I don't see nearly the talent as we have had in the past in our bullpen.
