The faculty senates in the Big Ten Academic Alliance are creating a “mutual defense compact” to fight against President Trump’s ongoing attacks on higher education. The faculty senate of Rutgers University began the initiative, passing a resolution April 6 to establish the compact among the Big Ten’s 18 universities. “Be it resolved that, the Rutgers University Senate urges the President of Rutgers University to formally propose and help establish a Mutual Academic Defense Compact (MADC) among all members of the Big Ten Academic Alliance,” the resolution said. https://thehill.com/homenews/educat...sities-trump-rutgers-nebraska-michigan-state/ For the first time ever I can say that I am proud of the Big Ten. Authoritarianism should never be acceptable and we need more people to stand up to who will go down as the worst president of all time

This is a fascinating time. Trump is attempting to tear down our American institutions. The institutions that made us the wealthiest, strongest, and most prosperous nation on earth. They are fighting back. They can’t do it alone. They need the people.
If the POTUS restricts terrorists from entering our country from "learning" how to be better terrorists in the Universities then the POTUS has the final word on that. There is nothing those greedy un-American clowns running those schools can do about it.
Frankly I find your language terrifying, Rick. Just don’t forget whatever amount of power we now give to the office will be soon wielded by president Newsome or Ocasio-Cortez or someone else with whom you completely disagree.
My wife’s university had a college wide meeting yesterday that left her saddened and enraged, two traits almost alien to her. The dean explained that they were changing the university mission and restructuring some administrative offices in line with the views of the of the current US administration. Many of the faculty couldn’t believe it. One asked the dean “This is offensive. Why can’t we just refuse?” The dean responded, “We get $100 million in Pell grants. We simply can’t service our undergraduates without that money. We have to rely on other wealthier schools, like Harvard, to fight this battle.” She was just heartbroken hearing this. The university is so scared they can’t even imagine fighting back. Neither of us has seen in our lifetimes one man trying to reshape so many of our society’s institutions to his own beliefs. And worse so many citizens cheering it on.
