We disagree here. Trump (while completely different) is a version of Reagan. Reagan was much more diplomatic in his approach. But times are completely different 4 decades later. There is so much happening right now that unfortunately needed to happen. And reality is we are in good shape overall.

I think Shapiro may have been a better pick, and possibly would have moved PA, but they still would have lost. In spite of all the hoopla that always surrounds the VP selection it just doesn’t move the needle.

Having said that they didn’t use Walz very effectively. They kind of buried him.

We're here for two reasons, imo:
First, because one-third of 2024 eligible voters did not participate at all. And unless there is increased engagement from them, margins of victory for the current two parties will remain small.

Second, in this age of quick takes, the saturation strategy of sound bites, memes and stereotypes is unfortunately what many people fall for. Feelings over facts.

Go pull the chart of the S&P from 2016 (historical/max for that matter would be good to see as well) or you can let an ignorant post about it drive your belief.

We are fine. We will survive regardless of who is President.

This kind of thinking and apathy toward the work it takes to be an informed citizen is why the nation is falling behind in every global benchmark.

Capitalism is a competitive global economic system. We need to be locked in to make sure we are competing at the highest level. Instead, we are self-inflicting damage to our economy, disrupting our supply chains, and hampering technological investment by creating uncertainty. We are reducing our trust with our biggest trading partners and allies for no reason. Not to mention harming our institutes of higher learning which need to be pumping out STEM graduates for us to compete.

To think we can just live in this level of chaos and not see ramifications is just sheer ignorance. Citizens voting for people who don't have the ability to even begin to understand the complexity of our economy or think reasonably are going to sink us.

I seriously encourage you to tune into CSPAN some to see what is actually going on in Congress if you think we are going to be "perfectly fine" long term. A lot of the people in there wouldn't be hired by any company to make decisions.

I certainly am not going to waste my time watching cspan. Life has too much to offer over that to me. Just not my cup of tea. With kids and our business/practice that continues to grow we are way too busy for that. And yes we will survive. Just was we survived the last 4 years. Granted I never thought I would see such a ridiculous time in my lifetime.

I could be wrong. But Trump actually looks to be doing something that will be beyond beneficial to America and the world. Dealing with foreign adversaries is completely different in today’s world.

But some just hate the man so much they refuse to take a step back and see what might be happening.

MTG would be an improvement. Not that it's saying much.

I don't know what metrics you are using to evaluate these things. You may not see the outcomes of what happens when America has ruined its competitive advantages in capital market efficiency and higher education, but your kids certainly will face a degraded quality of life. Paying attention is the responsibility of a citizen.

In the worst case, the economic system could go 2008 mode. If this admin gets its hands on fiscal policy with the Fed, it might very well happen. I very much hope the Secretary of the Treasury stays in the good graces of the President because he is competent and convinced him to stop the "reciprocal" tariffs.

My thoughts are the tariffs are potentially being used brilliantly to increase our competitive edge and control China. We will see.

Higher Ed has been a mess for sometime. From giving money for degrees that can’t pay for the money borrowed to DEI nonsense. It can’t get much worse than it had been…

I would put money on Barack Obama at this point. A lot has to happen for that door to open, but Obama seems as likely as anyone else in the field right now.

Dealing with China makes sense. We can debate strategy, but we have to address some things there.

However, what about picking fights with Canada and forcing them to think about joining the EU instead of being part of NAFTA? What about our tariffs on our EU allies goods? The reciprocal tariffs were obviously a bad idea since they rolled them back in record time after it nearly crashed the bond market. But remnants of this still remain and uncertainty abounds. Makes no sense.

Dealing with trying to make sense however what Trump's doing is the dumbest thing imaginable. Blanket tariffs across the board? It's obvious they have no strategy. Also if he's so concerned about bringing manufacturing to the US, what is he doing on the US side? Where's the pressure on the US companies? Who is he expecting to work in all of these factories with horrible pay in the future? It certainly won't be Gen z

Well, you can’t have him anymore than the diehard Trump supporters can have their guy for a third term. Two terms is two terms.
