Really disappointing that Aberdeen left, I wanted to watch him continue to progress as a player. Oh well, he made the decision for what he thinks is in his best interest so he's off my radar since I don't watch the NBA.
I left the boards a couple months back but lurked during the final four. I logged back in because I wanted to comment on a couple of topics here and in too hot. I refrained from too hot but just had to add that speaking as someone who grew up in a relatively modest lifestyle and made an even more modest living for most of my adulthood, I wouldn't leave friends and a good situation over a few hundred thousand IF...I was making a decent chunk of change already. It's not as if he's going from a situation where he isn't making any money to a million dollar payday. I have no idea what the numbers are so that obviously means nothing if the difference is substantial but the point is that there are people out there who will accept a little less if they are happy where they are at. Apparently it's rare
It’s obvious his agent has guaged his value and has some tentative offers in hand. Will be very curious to see where he visits and ultimately lands. I suspect it is somewhere on the verge of contention that has missed out on its top backcourt targets and has money to blow. Probably one of those schools in the 8-10 million club from the Norlander article.
I'm not surpirsued about Alexis transferring out, but am actually shocked about Aberdeen. He was going to be a primary part of next year's team, IMO, and hate to see him leave. But with a title under his belt, I think Coach Golden will be able to cobble together a team.
Aberdeen does not come from money and was not one of our big earners this past year. Would have gotten nice bump, but by all accounts this could be a 1 mil-plus more than he would have gotten at Florida. That’s huge for one year, especially for a guy who won’t make a ton of money at the next level.
I assumed he wasn't making much comparatively but figured he would get a healthy bump as a penciled in starter, his growth and the golden methodology of developing talent. You know more than I do though so I'm working off of assumptions.
Where's that million bucks Condron pledged after the championship? Does he have another? Does Hathcock want to match?
I’m evidently somehow late to this party, so many, like Baka here, have already said how I’m feeling. Zel was our guy, and watching him put in that work to break out next year was going to be one of the true joys of following the program. Gut punch for sure.
Yeah pretty mid roleplayers are reported to be getting 500k. I could see Aberdeen hitting a mil plus.
I know this is tongue-in-cheek post. But suffice to say, Hathcock and Condron do waaaaaaaaay more than anyone could expect. I think a healthy NIL is less reliant on individuals than the general support of its alumni base. I’m not sure how well Florida does in that aspect.
I won’t be very happy to see him on our schedule next year, but I don’t think he cares about my opinion.
I trust Golden to have us loaded at guard next year. Not sweating this one and will see what our roster looks like after the portal closes. Sneaky feeling we got more big names coming.
Do you think Aberdeen feels he has no chance to make it in the NBA? I know I wouldn't feel like that if I were him and had his skills.
Yes, this may be the sole reason. I do recall a few NBN’s saying they’d like to have that UConn guard that torched us if he entered the portal. It’s all about the $$ now (except reportedly for Lee); this and the ability to change schools every year (like Kugel) are starting to mess up college basketball severely. This doesn’t seem to be at all what the NCAA intended to correct just a few years ago. The problem now it is sometimes impossible to put the genie back in the bottle. We prevailed this year with a comparatively, lower outlay but it seems probable the blue blood schools will just increase their spending to obtain the best players in the country, by whatever means is perfectly legal to do at this point. It is truly pathetic and many here saw it coming years ago.
