It’s all that matters in life. If you give someone a million bucks and sign paperwork saying all they have to do is live in a certain radius and be available to make an appearance every now and then, that’s all they owe you in return.
Any appearance stipulation of probably just for the NIL to be appearing NILish. Do they really care what the player does away from the field?
A real NIL endorsement would want something in return. Commercial appearances, signings, etc. The collective needs engagements to drive donations. Yes, most of this is just pay for play under the guise of NIL, but you can’t enforce the things you’d enforce on a pay for play contract on an NIL contract. That’s my point. If people are dumb enough to give away millions for pretty much zero in return, and no guarantees of any kind, that’s on them. You can’t restrict it either though. If they wanna throw their money away, it’s their money.
Its a joke though. Everyone sees it for what it is and it isnt anything close to nil. Its legal but its bs. Just own up and run a legit league.

The courts ruling just made it so they were allowed to make money off their name, image, and likeness. They didn’t rule that the colleges had to pay them to play. If you actually pay them for their play and have contracts that say so, they’re employees. You can’t just write employee language on an NIL contract. *At least not in FL, and without more changes in the law.

So possibly the highest paid NIL deals aren't the guys we see on the field. I presume NIL deals can be amended, and that would even if not said out loud, have something to do with on-field value. No?
Nico reportedly made 2mill+ to redshirt, so yes, you can definitely have some of your highest paid guys riding pine. Contracts can certainly be amended, but the player isn't under any obligation to take less money if he doesn't perform. The contracts, at least in FL, are not allowed to be tied to a specific school, playing time, or performance. If they're cut from the team and/or they transfer on their own, move out of the area, and are unable to fulfill their NIL obligations, their contract would be void. If they ride pine, stay in Gainesville, and do what the contract says they have to, you owe them what you said you'd pay them though and don't really get to renegotiate just because they suck, unless you only did a one year deal. They're going to want more money if they do perform though, and they'll leave if you won't give it to them. The athletes hold almost all of the cards.
And there's probably some liability if an NIL creates extra or enforces obligations for one player but not another in order to have cause to void an NIL deal. It would be interesting to know what percentage of players are getting multi year over one year.
It would be interesting to know anything about this process, lol. We don't get accurate numbers or contract terms. We can research what the law allows and make assumptions. I've seen one contract that was not executed. It's written about how I expected, but doesn't necessarily mean that's how all of them are written. That one wasn't executed either so we don't even know if one side changed anything in it. Was in our offer or theirs? Was it a counter? Who knows? All we know is it looked pretty legit, but it was not executed and only signed by one party. It's not REALLY any of our business, but I agree, it would be interesting to know.
Wasn't that Manning kid paid an exorbitant amount to sign and redshirt his freshman year at Texas? Not sure he RS but sure didn't play much.
