TBH, with Stubbs and Hayward, if UF gets another highly ranked guy like Hester and or Womack, we good.
I think we would go after Hester regardless of what Womack does because of his position flexibility. Guys of that size, speed, tackling ability, and coverage skills don't grow on trees. We saw last year how secondary depth can be challenged.
And rankings dont make football players. Whats the odds if we had all four that they all live up to the hype. By rankings, they should all play on Sundays. Wouldnt that be a lovely back end. Four Nelsons.
Right, and then a guy who was demoted to a backup at Oregon transfers here and gets limited time at first but then becomes our best secondary player averaging about 8 tackles per game against our top competition with games of 11 tackles. You just don't know who will be that guy and how long it takes to show on the field.
Crazy how they cannot moneyball with recruiting and just outbid us after we get a commit. Mos should be upset and force Mario to get an army, like UF. Especially considering how they average losing 8 blue chip frosh and soph to the portal per year to UF's 4. It's not sustainable to keep up with the OSU, Bama, Uga.
Miami has so many kids transfer after year 1, as you can’t lie to recruits and tell them they will get playing time she. You have no intention of playing them. That and NIL is lowered in year 2 when no longer recruiting them.
True because imagine you were the guy ranking a position for a service and some players start the season in the 30s, but some of the top 10 guys finish not looking so impressive but the offer lists remain and are committed to top schools. What are you going to do? We all know finding the extremely under ranked players means film study, watching in person and developing a relationship. There is also the side of the game where it doesn't matter what a player is physically capable of if the attitude, ethic, drive and emotional intelligence is not there at the next level. A guy ranked 25th could certainly turn out to be as good as top 10, even if not initially class eye candy. I will say what I believe I've seen over time is the OL/DL we have taken ranked 50th or lower, don't tend to pan out.
As an aside, odd list of OVs for Hester listed here. CJ Hester 2026 Cornerback To further make the point of the services certainly not being up to date on information and evaluations, I look forward to Austin Armstrong closing the deal for us with Womack. Bralan Womack 2026 Nickel
The draft is littered with guys ranked outside the top 300. Top ranked guys are far more likely but its a crapshoot. Our best oline in some time came with Napier from a second tier school. Big boys are the hardest to evaluate i think, way too much speculation in physical development.
The 2025 NCAA basketball championship is also littered with guys outside the top 100....or so I hear.
