The setting around the outfield is quite unique if you’ve never been there. Then there’s the non stop clanging of cowbells to contend with… The grill smoke hanging over the outfield is pretty much doable though. Let’s arrive there and play all three games with one purpose in mind Gators! Let’s get it done!
Yah, getting confidence back with a nice 5 game win streak is now the time to keep it applied to SEC ball. Keep it alive and make the tourney and ya' never know...... GO GATORS!!!!
We've dug a hole for ourselves but the second half of the SEC season starts tonight and if we are to make the post-season we need to win 2 of 3 at Miss. State. Always good to grab the first game of series so let's get 'em. Keep the momo and win streak going and turn this SEC season around!
Miss. State is 23-14, 5-10 in the SEC. Their team BA is .301, ours .299. They field at .970, UF at .981. Their team ERA is 3.65, ours is 5.28. If we get better pitching, we'll be OK.
Agree completely @ocalaman—we’ve talked about this before. Our pitchers need to be able to consistently throw strike one in all the quadrants of the strike zone shy of the heart. Right behind that they really need to have the capability to pitch staying in “pitcher’s counts”. Command + Control = Confidence. The other way to say it is Consistency is the key. If our guys are healthy and on the bump—we’re talking about mindset and execution.
And strike two and three but not all in the same quadrant and same speed. You can mix in a pitch low and away or high and hard. Even throw an occasional one inside on the fists. In other words they need to pitch. But the point about getting ahead in the count is MAJOR. Pitching behind in the count is death. My wife goes to games with me and she used to ask me what Sully is saying to the pitchers when he went to the mound. For years I told the same joke over and over again: Throw a strike as far away from the bat as possible. It is a joke but it has truth in it. She has stopped asking me what he is saying.
