Good metaphor, @tegator80. We overly focus on the foolish hare when we ought to consider the resilient tortoise more. I will say, though, that we were a flexible team that could match styles capably, and we have coaches that identify the need and direct the adjustments.
I look forward to the long form journalism, videos and ultimately Chris Harry's book about the amazing collection of people that put it all together for our delight. @chris_harry
Even if TT had the #2 seeding, the pundits would hang their hats on the Gators needing to come back in 4/6 games. And if we dominated all 6 from start to finish they would have called it a weak field and a bad tournament. The pundits hate it when a non-traditional program wins. They wanted to crown Duke and Flagg sooooo bad and if any “outsiders” were going to dethrone them it was Auburn, Pearl, and Broome. Let them sulk for the next 7 months.
As fun as it would be to be living in Gainesville now, it's a different kind of "fun" to live here in Knoxville right now, and more so to be 'known' as a Gator alum/fan. My dad always said "When you lose say little; when you win, say less." and I ascribe to this philosophy so I don't flaunt my Gator-ness any MORE than I would have any other time but I am conscious of it since the population here is, for at least a few more weeks, conscious of their hopes for their hopsters and their broken dreams. Even a simple "Gators" sweatshirt inspires looks of envy. I went to a church officer meeting Tuesday, many of whom work for UT and all are fans. Wore my Rowdy Reptiles Nikes and a San Antonio Final Four hat my DiL got through work. Nothing too "Gator." My Clemson grad pastor, a sharp guy, says "Subtle. I like it."
We get to rub it in their faces so much, might as well be hitting them with the trophy. And yes there are many Holes who actually deserve to gave the wooden and brass trophy smashed into their faces. Perhaps not Lenny the rancid Ham. The Lord of NO Rings definitely. Danny Kannell definitely. And many others.
I take a back seat to no man in my disdain for anything associated with Those People but I confine my vitriol to this board, pretty much, and avoid descriptions of actual violence to them. I have family members who, sadly, associate with That Place so I don't like to think of smashing anything in their face. I wish violence on genuine enemies, not sports ones.
