U.S. billionaires are seeing their fortunes eroded, while Chinese billionaires are seeing their fortunes increase. Trump can't even help his own people, much less American peasants at large.

Trump's trade war is eroding US billionaires' fortunes — while China's are getting even richer

took $5.5B off of nvidia balance sheet with a rule change...

Markets sink after Nvidia announces $5.5 billion charge to comply with new Trump rule

Major companies typically record charges for one-time expenses or an expected reduction in earnings. The charge announced by Nvidia relates to a new Trump rule that applies to its H20 chips. Those chips were designed specifically to comply with Biden-era regulations for selling tech products to China. CNBC reported the H20 line generated an estimated $12 billion to $15 billion in revenue in 2024.

In a filing late Tuesday, Nvidia said Trump officials are now requiring a new export license for the H20s to address "the risk that [the chips] may be used in, or diverted to, a supercomputer in China." Nvidia said the administration officials indicating the rule would be in effect “for the indefinite future."

Because that will fix the problem, right? Bring in a Fox News analyst to do his job, make him say that everything is fine, and then everything will be fine?

His term runs through 2026. I suspect that the autocratic section of society will cheer though whenever Trump decides to make monetary policy political and tank the economy to make sure he controls all the levers.

Unfortunately it doesn’t run through 2026, but only May. If it was through 2026 there may have been some hope for midterms to affect the nomination. Trump will likely nominate a replacement in November to be ready to step in mid-2026.

Very disturbing. Powell is (maybe was) one of Trump’s better appointments. The pressure to reduce rates (maybe even negative) to flush debt is going to really push the US into a dollar crash and into stagflation with low unemployment and mass deportations.

You guys have no idea how paralyzed the consumer market is right now. Particularly categories that are heavily tooled and have no real economical options to move production with zero notice. If we were really serious about moving production out of China we would have set a timeline that allows businesses to respond (1-2 year timeline). Many factories take months and years to build out or move. I could go on for pages and pages of industries that have stopped production and are waiting for things to change but are running out of time. Most of the stuff shipping now was agreed to months ago.

It would also give our export industries a year or two to find replacements for the China demand that just was cut off in response. But no, the administration isnt serious about anything. Its all a show, or a game show. The happiest Trump has looked was when he declared countries were calling to "kiss his ass" which is the only outcome of a zero notice radical action that we are seeing.

Further to this, my company is building a new factory in Florida ans I write this and equipment coming in that we already ordered will be subject to tariffs increasing our cost to build. What does that mean? Our cost to run the facility will be greater for the next 15 years regardless of what the Idiot in Chief does with the tariffs later on meaning our prices to consumers will be greater for the next 15 years (and we’re in 8 out of 10 homes). Long term baked-in inflation

I wonder if those Chinese goods are knock offs of “real” designs though? That would be less funny if China are trolling with counterfeit knock offs. I’m sure just like the MAGA hats, her stuff is made overseas either way even if they have some designer label. Most stuff, including “designer” goods is overseas now (why settle for 80% margin when they can be made for 90% margin). But it’s not impossible to source domestic clothing. You’d think they’d at least pretend to not be giant hypocrites.
