I was thinking in terms of positions. That’s hard enough - I was mostly pushing back on the idea of “2 years” being some limiting factor. We have probably 7 or 8 guys that have a case to be on an “all time great” Gator starting 5 team, and Clayton would have to be up there. Hell Miller also only played 2 years so makes no sense to include him and want to disregard Clayton.
Only saw him play once on TV. Very impressive. I was a kid and at that time not much into basketball but it made a huge impression on me. But that once in a lifetime guy at UCLA was better so he wasn't the #1 pick.
For a guy who could create his own shot, I think you may be right. And, I'm getting more and more convinced that he actually has the very rare clutch gene (that I think is a lot more rare than most fans think). It makes me think, however, that I wish it was possible to do a playback and see what Teddy Dupay would have done with a total green light playing in this era of increased 3-point shooting.
The soutce is lame but I love this headline: Zero-star recruit Walter Clayton Jr. is now Florida’s greatest basketball player of all time
Teddy I wish could come back as an assistant with TG. Teddy was a great three point shooter and probably would have given Walter a run for the money!
let's just call a mount rushmore of gator basketball greats as they do in the NBA but there is one definitive, all time greatest dance move look at the quality of this upload, so long ago
Let's wait a year or so before we anoint anyone as the GOAT of Florida basketball. I know we're basking in the light of a national title and understand the adrenaline rush. But cool it and let things build a little perspective.
Ordinarily I'd wholeheartedly agree, but in this case, I'll temper my support with this: Walter's contributions to the team are so significant that I think it's appropriate to be considering them even in the haze of recency glow. Personally, I think that the more we consider him, and his impact as an individual on a team of great individuals, the greater will our appreciation be. In a mighty forest, one oak can still be the greatest.
A legend in Florida, raised and training young people to be better basketball players. Another recruiting tool CTG could use to get home grown talent,
