If we set aside the very obvious conflict of interest here, it does make some sense. The intent doesn't sound like they're expecting to directly communicate with every citizen through X, but rather any sort of agencies/media that historically rely on press releases should instead just monitor the SSA account on X. That way the SSA doesn't have to maintain any sort of distribution list for press releases.

 

I hope it will be on their website as it is now. The only important communication I’ve ever received by email was my yearly cola and statement.

Not surprising. Elons goal all along for X is a funds transfer platform, basically PayPal on steroids. SS is a huge payment system, so looks like he saw an opportunity. The sad part is everyone is doing things in govt because of $, not what's right or fair.
