Being invited to the White House is an honor and it is not political since it is typically done with all national champions.
You ask for discourse on the topic then keep saying you hope they turn it down but you don’t give a reason. Love and respect you on here but I’m really curious what the reason really is. Maybe you are worried about sending this thread to the cesspool that is THFSG.
It’s called a White House visit not a presidential visit. Champions go to the White House it’s tradition. I understand not going but I would hope the team goes.
It's semantics but "politics" is how any group gets things done. It is serious, and we should approach it that way. I'd say some people take POLITICIANS way too seriously. At least back in my day, we soldiers didn't like or trust any of them to be smart with our lives or livelihood.
I don't agree. While you may be able to purchase a meeting with the President of the United States, Winning a National Championship and subsequently being honored at the White House can not be purchased. I do believe some colleges have "bought" teams and many are trying to, this rarely is successful.
That's the way I took it. Keeping outright politics out of the thread for us . . . which is appreciated.
i I dont have to answer why on here, this is not a political thread, and it shouldnt be. The gentleman asked a question at the beginning, I answered it the way I could on this site. I will go no further then that on here. If you ever want to have a civil discussion in person I would love to as long as it is civil. yes I dont want to turn it into other sites free boards
now please no more overtures on here, I was basically asked to shut it down and I have..I have typed what I have typed and dont feel the need to further explain it..
I must have misunderstood your post. I was strictly referencing a visit (or stay) to the WH, which giving sufficient campaign donations to procure is a established tradition. I misunderstood that you were referring only to being honored for some purpose like a championship sports team. My apologies.
I live and own practices in and around DC. A few of my patients over the years are well known and many on here read about them or see them on the boob tube. It's generally in my nature but I have to be as apolitical as possible. It's just interesting/weird for me to see people argue about politics on a college sports forum (GC isn't the only one). I come here for the shits and giggles and Gator stuff.
It's all butt-sniffing for political drama junkies. One whiff of the 'wrong views' and the barking starts. That sort of hardened opinions is only for discussions about the SOW, where it's OK to harangue people that fail to see anything positive happening at that festering, putrescent, wound on the face of our dear state.
One of my first jobs after UF. I ran the extended spring camp in Vero Beach / Port St. Lucie for the Dodgers. I was 24 at the time, so it was pretty cool basically being their business manager/traveling secretary. It was the lockout year, so that got resolved in mid-April and I got a chance to go out to intern for the season at Dodger Stadium in their Community Relations Dept, which turned into a 4 year job with the team in LA. I also worked for 2 seasons with the A's in a similar capacity, then 10 seasons with the Angels in Anaheim (cough, LA - lol). A lot of cool experiences - and the team was still owned by the O'Malley's for most of my time there, which was really cool. Glad I got to do it - and I actually got into sports as a UF student, working as a volunteer with the UAA operations department and Gator Boosters after meeting then interim AD Jeremy Foley when I was a barback at Ashley's Pub.
It is an honor, and people get to make choices. The beauty of America! I’ll support this team and the players no matter their collective or or individual choices.
Regardless of political leanings, this visit should be about Florida and representing all Floridians. The President lives in Florida, several cabinet members are from Florida, Rubio's son plays here. The photo op for the team in their Gator colors and holding up the Florida jersey, is what we all should be proud of if you really are a Floridian and a Florida Gator. This team, by representing our school, our state, and the great Floridians that live here, will always transcend any political affiliation. To miss that would always be a missed opportunity to represent who we are, not what opinions each of us have. Go Gators! And by going, the Gators Boys will Stay Hot, not letting our differences divide us.
