We needs to see how many transfers there'll be and deal with those spots. I guess UF doesn't expect too much movement, but we'll see. It's just the way the system is now. I think the team is about complete. They need to get the secondary healthy. A lot of young guys and walkons played a lot in the O&B game. Once healthy it's a good group. Kofi looks like a player, so edge depth is fine. Just like before spring, I think they need to add just one player- a DT for depth. They need one more guy ready to play 20/25 snaps in the SEC. For the game, Banks didn't play and I don't think Lyons or Jackson played much at all. Just like the secondary, the young guys played a lot.
Linebackers are going to be excellent and maybe the best unit on defense. Except for maybe a moment or 2 when's the last time we could say that? A DT would be welcome.
It would be nice if we could depend on a haf dozen of those talented dbs. How many got snaps last year?
Getting another proven DT would be nice, but we are 5 deep with guys that have playing time in Banks, Lyons, Robinson, Boireau, and Brien. Hopefully we see the year two jump with LJ McCray. We seem to be pretty deep with Gumbs, James and Sapp then Kofi and freshman Woods. Linebacker room has a chance to be special. Offense looks like it can be elite. Speed on top of speed. I am bias, but I think we have the best running back room in college football.
If you told me all of them would stay healthy for the entire season, they'd be good. But, as we saw last year and even in the spring game, that doesn't really happen. One more DT would be very helpful.
Brien is a little small for DT in the SEC too at 278 pounds or so. He’s kind of a tweeter between DT and SS edge. I hope we can get an experienced upperclassman that would be a solid backup but definitely in the top 4-5 rotation so the younger guy’s aren’t forced into playing time in meaningful games and minutes.
