But wait, I thought tariffs were going to lead to huge gains in manufacturing. Or trillions in revenue. Why are we negotiating on those amazing and not at all contradictory effects?

Traditional Manufacturing jobs are not coming back to the U.S. en masse - and even if we force companies to come back they’ll rely on robotics as much as realistically possible before they rely on an untrained and expensive US workforce. What we should be focusing on is training up the workforce for future manufacturing. Like robotics, renewables, semiconductors, biomanufacturing, etc. and offering significant subsidies so that it makes sense competitively for future tech to be built stateside.

all of these powers stemming from a mythical emergency

Hedge fund billionaire says US may face ‘worse than a recession’ from Trump tariffs

Dalio’s comments come in response to a tumultuous week across the global stock markets following the US president’s tariffs policies that include a 145% tariff raise on China. The billionaire also said there are “profound changes in our domestic order … and world order”, comparing current times with the 1930s.

I’ve studied history and this repeats over and over again. So if you take tariffs, if you take debt, if you take the rising power challenging existing power, if you take those factors and look at the factors, those changes in the orders, the systems, are very, very disruptive. How that’s handled could produce something that is much worse than a recession. Or it could be handled well,” he said.

In response to whether he believes Trump’s tariffs are worsening the “complicated mix of challenges” the world is facing, Dalio said there is a reality to build manufacturing and expand jobs across the US.

However, he added that how that is done, “whether that’s done in a practical way, whether that’s done in a stable way”, or in a way with “quality negotiations” versus a “chaotic and disruptive way … makes all the difference in the world”.

Texans could be ‘hardest hit’: The state could lose 370,000 jobs and $47 billion a year in GDP because of Trump’s tariffs

"Texas would by far be the state that's hardest hit by these tariffs," Ray Perryman, CEO of economic research company, The Perryman Group, told CBS. "We buy a lot of things from Mexico. Mexico buys a lot of things from us. For the last 30 years, we've stitched these economies together. They're really integrated in some fundamental ways. And when you rip those seams apart, you're going to start seeing some pretty significant impacts."
    .............................................
For example, since Texas also acquires a large portion of its steel and lumber from Canada to build homes, the cost of construction could grow too, making it more difficult for people to find affordable housing in the state.

"You're basically fundamentally changing a system that's evolved over a long time that works really well and has produced a lot of benefits," Perryman underscored. "And so when you start interfering with that and dismantling that, you're going to see some significant consequences that really do work their way through a lot of different crevices in the economy."

    1. Yes, it does, which is probably why we should try to address these issues before starting a trade war. What most countries do is place selective tariffs on strategic industries, not blanket tariffs on everything and everyone. While it's true that we're the biggest customer for most things, the customer nevertheless may not have all the power when the seller(s) is/are the only provider(s) of something the customer needs. That appears to be missing from the analyses of those who believe that because we import so much more than we export that we hold all the cards.

We're pretty dependent on China for basic pharmaceuticals, the cheap stuff (think antibiotics, analgesics, antihypertensives, hypoglycemics, etc.) that's used widely and save far more lives than say the expensive chemotherapy agents. We import most of those from China or India, and India in turn is highly dependent on China for drug precursors so China basically controls all of it.

Kevin O'Leary isn't even American, why is he trying to act like an impassioned patriot?

What? What? Wait a minute! Are you saying that selecting a bunch of reality tv characters to run government departments and the government itself is not a recipe for success? How dare you bring competency into our lives! #MAGAFORWASHEDUPREALITYSTARS!

EU delivers Donald Trump blow with strategic China decision

Europe appears to be shifting its gaze from west to east, as leaders lean towards China for trade agreements rather than aligning with President Donald Trump of the United States, with the news coming just days after China's huge economic decision that was described as an 'act of hybrid warfare' and designed to 'punish Trump.'

Euronews has reported that following President Trump's infamous "reciprocal tariffs" - which China responded to with huge tariff hikes on certain goods - speech at the White House earlier this month, the first call made by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was to China.

The European Commission, which had previously provided President Trump a stern warning over his tariffs, issued an official statement saying: "In response to the widespread disruption caused by the US tariffs, President von der Leyen stressed the responsibility of Europe and China, as two of the world's largest markets, to support a strong reformed trading system, free, fair and founded on a level playing field.

The shift in focus comes after Trump was slammed for saying that Putin's latest attack on Ukraine which killed 34, including two children, was a 'mistake'.

I think Trump is just used to bullying people who have no means of pushback. Seems like it's been his MO forever. Now he's trying to bully people that actually have recourse

These type of results are SO PREDICTABLE. Any ounce of forward thinking would have come to this conclusion — the whiplash of the tariff threat is causing global rethinking of the will to do business with us. We are no longer predictable, reliable or trustworthy. We care more for narrative than truth. We have no uniformity of morals, allowing our mouthpieces to be purchased by evil.

It's funny to watch Traitor Trump at every single turn try to cover for and explain away the crimes of his criminal overlord, Putin.

Just turn your heads, MAGA. Trump's just excuse making for Vlad killing civilians. Just pretend it didn't happen!

In response to the attack, where Russian President Vladimir Putin has been accused of "targeting civilians," Mr. Trump stated: "I think it was terrible, and I was told they made a mistake, but I think it's a horrible thing. I think the whole war is a horrible thing... for that war to have started is an abuse of power."
