The article lists UF, USF and UCF as schools have entered this agreement. Several universities in Florida have signed agreements to cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement amid an ongoing push by state leaders to aid the Trump administration’s crackdown on immigration. The University of Florida said Friday it has signed the 287(g) agreement that allows local law enforcement to act as immigration officers. “We can confirm that we have signed the 287(g) agreement,” a spokesperson for the university told CNN. Under the agreement, ICE delegates to local officers “the authority to perform specified immigration officer functions under the agency’s direction and oversight,” according to the Department of Homeland Security. https://www.cnn.com/2025/04/12/us/florida-universities-ice-immigration-crackdown/index.html
Much easier to sign it and then do your best to protect legal international students than to not sign it make a statement and lose federal funding and have your students perhaps extra targeted. I’m sure many activists would disagree with me.
similar to the dilemma currently faced by a lot of law firms. Make a stand and become a full on target, or live to fight another day
Boy between protests and this (and many other things), university administrators sure do hate their students
This is literally the fight though lol. This has nothing to do with tactical retreat, its about keeping the money coming. Not unlike keeping recruiters on campus during the Iraq War.
