All of the full-time employees in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Vessel Sanitation Program are now off the job, multiple officials tell CBS News, gutting the agency's ability to investigate outbreaks and conduct health inspections on cruise ships. A smaller group of 12 U.S. Public Health Service officers will remain.

The steep cuts to the program's inspectors baffled CDC officials since the small team's staff is not paid for by taxpayer dollars. Fees from cruise ships companies pay for the program, which is supposed to inspect large vessels at least twice a year.

The epidemiologist tasked with leading the agency's outbreak response on cruise ships was included in the layoffs, multiple CDC officials said.

Who cares about clean cruise ships? In fact, let's eliminate all health inspectors as well. So much winning

Wealthy people don’t take cruise ships, that’s for the middle class and older folks. This is not a priority for the GOP.

Trump doesn't care about people. That's been obvious for decades.

The only strange thing is that that might still have to be pointed out.

Democrats popelined illegal immigrant petri dishes by the millions into America so as to undermine democracy for the traditional Americans already here.

Cruise ships should conduct their own inspections

Wait, so you’re saying that cruise ships who have a vested interest in the passengers for their business should conducting their own inspections to ensure passengers are safe? Great idea.

More accurately, the cruise lines paid a fee to have the gov't do inspections as a safeguard. Since the circus has fired all the gov't inspectors... that were funded by the cruise lines, there's the issue.

Get rid of the FDA as well. As economist Sam Peltzman said in 1972, for every unit of pain, suffering and death the FDA prevents, it causes 10 units of pain, suffering and death. Milton Friedman checked Peltzman's work and wrote about it in the January 8, 1973 issue of Newsweek:"Frustrating Drug Advancement"
    Trends

We need 4 departments in the executive branch: State, Defense, Treasury, Justice. Just about everything else needs to go per Milton Friedman
Maybe part of HHS could be saved. Necessary Intel agencies would be part of the Defense Dept

Shocking that right-wing know-nothings are commenting on the actions of yet another right-wing grifter, know-nothing.

The inspectors were NOT paid out of federal tax dollars. How in the hell is firing these people an "efficiency"?? Nevermind, there is no answer for that, so don't try.

Further, the last time President Mentally Impaired eliminated a CDC forward monitoring group, a world wide pandemic broke out literally right where that monitoring group would have been standing. So of course the moron will repeat the exact same mistake.

Finally, righties cannot see beyond their own noses. The presence of the CDC inspectors on those cruise ships is not to protect the industry, nor even to protect the passengers. They are deployed aboard ships to find the petri dishes of the "next" outbreak, something that we are always 1 mutation away from, and try to eradicate them before something festers in them that is truly dangerous beyond Norovirus.

So just like we are less safe with an absolute idiot grifter who cannot even complete a coherent sentence as HHS Secretary, this is just one more move that makes all Americans less safe. In no reality is removing forward monitors from places we know are absolute cauldrens of germs is a sensible act.

    Idiotic all the way around.

It is very efficient at "owning the libs" (aka people with 2+ brain cells). Once you realize that is their only objective, it becomes easier to understand.

They also stand to lose a great amount of revenue if they take a ship off line. Fox watching the hen house.
