I still think last year's team was "Sweet 16 good" and had a chance to make a run until Micah's broken leg. Yes, the defense was not good, but Colorado game would've been very different with our starting center available, and then who knows?
I am an Illinois multiple grad (MS, PHD) and I always thought that Self was corrupt and didn't like that he was their coach. I was HAPPY when he left. Now buying players is all above board. It is the new thing.
Along with Caliperi & Sampson, plus that guy LSU had to fire and now has crept back into coaching somewhere.
The thing about Golden’s approach to the portal is he won’t commit resources to a player just to get him. Kid has to be a fit. Would far rather have a good fit that doesn’t cost a ton or great jealousy/dissension than the best available player. He also prefers retaining and developing players and seemed to suggest in his presser today that putting resources there is the priority.
I’m curious why you say that about Pearl. On more than one occasion, especially with Florida players, he’s shown a lot of concern and class. I think he’s a pretty good guy. He’s clearly a great coach. Oh…and I’m a life-long Gator.
Pearl is a nice and likeable guy. That doesn't excuse his history of cheating. He got in severe trouble for cheating while at Tennessee. Left that job, received a "show cause" status from the NCAA and went to Auburn, where he started cheating again, and even lying to his administration about it.
I don’t find those orchestrated videos to be quite as genuine as you do. If you’re just wanting to offer sympathy, why make a production out of it for the world to see? Why not just contact the person directly unless you’re looking to gain something by making it a public spectacle?
He also loved BD, obviously loves TG(his son and Todd are best friends) and once called UF basketball royalty. i don’t get the Pearl hate - he loves the game, loves his players, is hilarious and has shown nothing but love for UF even back to his UT days. I think he’s a great ambassador for the SEC and great for college basketball. Yeah I know what he did at UT. He lied about a barbecue. So what - Every saint has a past; every sinner has a future “Wes Chandler was Percy Harvin before Percy Harvin was born.”
My cousin is a Penn grad and has closely followed the Ivy League for many years. He told me that Lee is very athletic & fearless and offensively he'll transition well to a major conference but says he's rail thin and guarding stronger and bigger guards will be a challenge for him. He also says and obviously should be taken with a grain of salt that his insider source says its between Duke and Florida.
I think Wade, although unlikable as a human being, is a good basketball coach. He may be able to stay out of trouble in the new no rules era.
