I would love to see Florida gymnasium renovated (the court portion) and simultaneously have all the modern amenities while somehow keeping the historic feel and materials and become the home of the women's program
I feel like championships are important in football but winning rivalry games in football is much bigger than in basketball, at least at UF, anyway, and that is where Spurrier excelled. So even if we didn't win a national championship every year, we were stomping on most of our rivals, and given how few games are played in a football season versus basketball, those victories carry more weight and are much more memorable. Basketball is more about getting to the final four or winning championships. I can't remember too many regular season games in basketball from even 5 years ago, but I remember beating Tennessee in the swamp in 1991 and that Pick 6 by Larry Kennedy like it was yesterday.
I think it was an sec championship but it couldve been regular season. We stomp alabama pretty good and my buddy's wife kicked us all out of the house gor the second half and we had to watch through the window
Maybe to you. UF football wasn't very good in the last 15 years. A lot of forgettable games. It's probably why I don't remember a lot of their games even though they played fewer games. Or maybe I blocked those games from my memory. However, I can recall some great BB games even games that UF lost.
Spurrier's six (seven really) SEC titles when nobody had ever yet done it at Florida are as important to his legacy as the national title.
Bigger problem: Our current natty crystal ball case is only made for 2 trophies. This must be remedied immediately.
How 'bout on the exterior front wall of Tigert What exactly is Florida Gym used for these days? I watched many a basketball game and concert there back in the day. Blondie, Rockpile, the Outlaws, Wet Willie, Jimmy Buffett, the Ramones...

It was used for Rec league basketball in the '80's when I was at UF, but when they opened the SW Rec center, I think they stopped using it.
All the seats are gone and turned into classrooms. The gym floor is stull used for PE classes and sometimes as an evening venue for events. I played a lot of noon time pick-up there before we were thrown out. We got to play at the nearby student gym for a while only because one of our players was friends with our dentist President. After that our game got relegated to the outdoor courts south of Hume. We still had our faculty locker room at Florida Gym back then so we could shower afterwards.
