I asked this on NBN but just curious to get a consensus. I know some weirdos are only football fans and think the AD sucks regardless unless the football program is playing in Atlanta every year. Has your opinion of Scott changed with his obvious home run hire of Todd Golden?
My opinion of him and $7 will get me a cup of coffee at Starbucks. He has a home run hire in Golden. I would give him an incomplete until Billy is done, is fired, succeeds this year and next. Stricknine was hired 11/1/2016 Under his watch baseball 2017, CWS of course in 2024 As of today I'd say a B My opinion only, not here to change anyone's
No AD at a major program can survive two consecutive failed football hires. Unless your basketball hire wins a NC in year 3. I think we need to give Scott some credibility.
Scott seems personable. I understand (what little I know) he has "fit in" with the big rollers that control the keys to UF. They say he is excellent at soliciting contributions. Has overseen some significant facility infrastructure improvements. Certainly is not an AD that throws gigantic sums of money at coaches like those folks at tamu. (Napier's buyout is far from eye popping anymore). Spring sports has continued to do well under his tutelage, although baseball is down this year. I don't think Scott has much to do with that, it's just a down cycle. I'm certainly grateful of the roll of the dice on Golden. Talk about a home run. He definitely deserved demerits over woman's basketball, but who among us is without warts in their respective occupations? Regarding Mullen, it started well then hit the skids. Napier, there are many things to like other than the record......... (yeah let me have it instant gratification crowd). They tell me the stadium keeps selling out though. Not so good news is the Rashada case has not been dismissed and is going to discovery. Scott has also had to negotiate NIL, Transfer Portal, and Conference Re-Alignment madness. Tough circumstances if you ask me. I will admit being initially "critical" why UF would bring a guy in from Mississippi State, for the job, but that had an unfair bias about it on my part and frankly lack of understanding about the realities of the position. I'm not going to assign a grade, but I certainly believe the calls for his ouster, should be silent. This of course will only be until September. Clearly Scott is linked at the belt with Napier. He may survive Napier if this season does not work out, but his seat will get substantially warmer should it not.
It was made clear that the football program was a four year rebuild. Seems to be on track. Basketball just won a NC. I'm good. For those that need a scapegoat for their damaged egos a suppose Stricklin will do.
I think this is the first National Championship won by a coach SS hired. All others were by JF? Am I correct on that?
Here's the record of coaches hired by Scott Stricklin vs. those he inherited. Stricklin: 200-193-11 (0.495) Non-Stricklin: 1461-591-8 (0.709) Stricklin: 8 conf. titles*, 1 NC
That may be technically true but its a little unfair. Usually the coaches that are replaced are in programs that aren't so hot- so calls for a rebuild. But the stable programs doing well don't need a change.
I think he should really look into hiring a guy to take care of Football for him. He isn’t a failure but I don’t think we should let him hire another football coach on his own.
Mullen was a good hire until he wasn't. Napier has been underwhelming but it was known he was walking into a rebuild and the advent of NIL has changed the game a lot. Stricklebaum seems to have made a reasonable choice both times. I think the basketball NC means he survives if Napier has to be fired. Hopefully that's not necessary and everyone stays.
Huge demerit points for scrimping on Basketball Natty celebration by wedging it in at halftime of Orange and Blue untelevised scrimmage.
I was hoping to be able to see that celebration of the basketball team. Any chance they’ll video record it and maybe upload it online at some point?
Article says “celebration will be streaming on Lear Field – video to be available at a later time” TIFWIW
I thought this was just A celebration. Wasn’t THE celebration more the welcome home party earlier in the week? That was a pretty big thing.
